Need help ASAP, gas ran out, now car wont start.
Sup people,
Once again I look to you guys for some much needed help. My GF has a 07 honda civic coupe, we made a late night run to the store and noticed she needed gas. BUT SHE STILL HAD 1 BAR LEFT, so I thought ok, we'll go to the store and then put gas after. When we came out of the store and tried to turn on the car, it wouldnt. I automatically thought **** it nees gas. So I pushed it to the gas station which wasnt that far and put $15 worth of gas. And it still doesnt start! I checked to make sure the fuel pump primes and it does....
I know for a fact its not the Battery... dont think its the starter either.
I put the key in and let the fuel pump prime like 10 times. When I turn the key it makes a noise in the engine as if maybe the starter is turning? or something...? i dont know how to describe it, but its not a clicking noise like a dead battery.
any help is appreciated....car was left at the gas station and I walked home =(

Not that it helps now it seems but next try hitting the starter with something as someone is turning the key. Solenoid might be sticking.

I wonder if it is a coincidence that it will not start, might not be related to no gas.
When you crank it, does it sound strong like it wants to turn or sound weak?
Check for spark, fuel normal stuff.

It's possibly still just not getting gas. It's a returnless setup; so you have to get the fuel all the way to the front by bleeding the air though the injectors I think.... I would keep trying it... priming and turning the key to start it.

Re: Need help ASAP, gas ran out, now car wont start.
so after a long *** night and getting picked up at 5am by the tow truck, the car finally made it home.
First thing I did was check the battery with my multimeter and it reads fine.
Second thing I noticed was to double check if the fuel pump is priming, which it is....honestly I've never paid too much attention to it, so I dont know if its suppose to sound as strong as my eg, I can hear that thing ridiculously loud. But on the fg, I can barely hear it... but it does prime.
Third thing I'm assuming its the starter, since it's literally in the back of the engine, I couldnt hit it with any tool to check that. So that is going to be taken care of right now as soon as I put it up on jack stands.
Fourth, I assumed but also didnt think it was possible that it was the timing belt? still havent checked this either, but I doubt this is it..
Aside from this I wouldnt know how to go about...so im going to check these things first.
One thing I remembered is that I *thought* it ran out of gas. BUT, on these cars having 1 bar left still means it can go to empty (no bars) and still be able to drive about 20 miles. At the point of not starting, the car still had 1 bar left! so it's possible it's not even gas related...
When I turn the key on, the engine kinda whines. As if something is spinning in the front of the engine
but yeah, just woke up after the long night so Im going to get to it with the car, any input is appreciated, I'll come check the thread periodically.
thanks guys.

Re: Need help ASAP, gas ran out, now car wont start.
Alright guys, I ended up taking off the starter and it seemed fine, took it to Autozone and got it checked and it was perfectly fine. I figured since it's not that old because I got it replaced about 8 months ago. So the starter is eliminated.
We were thinking it might be the timing help? Reason for me saying this is because we turned the engine from the pulley side and there was no resistance what so ever. Could it be this? is there any other way of checking if its this?
Things eliminated so far:
Battery
Starter
Fuel Pump Primes
Whats left? Timing belt? spark?
Im not too familiar with these sort of engines, I'm more of a D & B series type of guy so I have no idea how to check for spark so any help on that would be sweet.

I would try to jump start the car it wont hurt. Also, leave your meter on the battery and see if it drops when you try to start the car.

When I turn the key, the engine whines and thats it, it doesnt even try to start or anything. It just whines. When I bring the key back it stops, so it only makes the whining noise when I turn the key.

FIXED
the problem was the frikin starter!
Although it was only 8 months old, it went to ****.
I had my buddy who works at a honda dealership bring me one down today and the car started right up. He checked the non-working one and said that it would spin freely with no restriction, therefore when turning the key, the whining noise I would hear was the starter spinning but not turning the flywheel.
For everyone that helped, thanks for your time!
