5th gear too soft or I miss it completely
Helping a family fix their shifter in a 07 civic si 4 door.
When we go from 2nd to 3rd, its really easy. You could feel where the notch is before you push the stick up to 3rd gear.
When we from 4th to 5th, we never make it to 5th. Sometimes we move the stick and completely miss the 5th gear. If I move the stick from 4th to center then slowly move it right, i'll somewhat feel that next notch and is able to push the stick to 5th gear.
What is used to fix this? is it a bushing? tranny issue? Help?
thank you,
X

How can you miss 5th? It is all the way right and up?!! Sixth is right and down and you can't get into reverse unless you are stationary. Might want to check on a clutch adjustment for clutch throw.

Let me explain again differently...
Put your stick in N. It stays in the middle. If you push to the right, i don't feel that resistance or that little stoppage where i can push to 5th or 6th. Instead if i push right, it sometimes just goes straight far right to where you can push down for reverse. This is how I miss 5th gear.

This is hard to explain...but what I've seen once on a sloppy shifting TSX:
There is a metal guide/stop for each cable. It is located inside the cable jacket where the cable attaches to the bracket on the transmission.
If you feel around at that joint (two 10mm head screws are holding the cable to the bracket), try and feel if that stopper/guide tube is moving around inside.
If it is, you'll need to remove the 2 10mm screws, peel back the jacket, and shove/hammer the tube back into place. Then crimp them back into place with a hammer and chisel.
Hard to explain...easy to do. Might be your problem.
