Default Windshield washer light

My windshield washer fluid light stays on even after I fill the washer fluid tank. Can somebody tell me why this might be and perhaps suggest a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

I've seen this same question asked on a bunch of different forums and not a single one has been answered. Is this the unanswerable question???

The sensor built into the fluid pump could be broken. If you look at the driver's side of the car, and pull back the fender liner, you can access the pump easily. Or, you could take the front bumper off. Both accomplish the same thing.

That may be true, but the possibility that the sensor in the pump may be shorting on something is also a possibility.

Is there any way of getting at this thing without taking the car apart to that extent??? I'm not unwilling or unable to do things myself but I'm not a mechanic either.

I've seen this question asked a number of times on different forums and nobody has a concrete answer as to what the problem is. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the advice, but what if it's a well known electrical problem rather than a problem with a part in the reservoir?

Has anybody had any experience with this?

The problem is that the majority of the users here are from the U.S. - and only the Canadian models have the Washer Level Indicator. That is going to make it difficult to find someone who's experienced this problem, first hand. If it were a "well known electrical problem" .. information would have been easier to obtain.

Pulling back the fender liner is very simple. You only have to remove two clips. (one at the top edge of the fender well, and one at the bottom of the fender liner where it meets with the bumper cover)

It takes less than 10 minutes to remove the front bumper cover.

A. Under the hood you'll find these four clips holding the top of the grill & bumper to the car. Remove all four of them.

B. Remove these two screws located at the edge of the fender well, in front of each tire.

C. Under the bumper: Remove these two screws (one on each side) and all the clips.

With all the screws and clips removed: Pull the edges of the bumper (at the fender well) away from the car while simultaneously pulling forward. It's a lot easier than it looks.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Thank you very much for that. I will give it a go.

Very good point about why few people have experience. It is interesting that only Canadian models have this light. Some one at Honda actually had to make that decision at some point. I guess it doesn't rain/snow in the U.S. huh?

It's the washerfluid level sensor, call any Canadian dealer and they can get it for you. I think they are under $30 for the sensor.

I had similar problem with my fluid indicator a couple of years ago. The light stayed on even when the tank is full. It fixed itself after a few days. Really weird electrical gremlin. Maybe my Honda thought it was a VW.

check fluid level sensor continuity:
-There should be continuity when the float is down.
-There should be no continuity when the float is up.
Honda Canada Inc. service part number is 76835-s84-c02. This was a common part to sell back in my days of running a Honda dealership parts department.

What's funny is that if you buy your car in Niagara falls Canada, it has a low washer fluid light. If you buy it in Niagara Falls, NY..... it doesn't. So I guess its true that the temps drop 20 degrees as soon as you cross the border

My windsheild washer light stayed on after it ran dry. Even after i filled it up, it was still on. I got a 1/2 hose, placed down in the washer tank and blew on it. This did not work. Then, I tried working the hose up and down. It did not work the first time, but the second time it did.

Good Luck

My Civic doesnt have that light and i'm from canada, and none of my friends with 7th gen civics have that light either, maybe it was a special option on certiain models, werid.
I find out i'm empty when it doesnt spray anymore, then i just fill it up. lol
I go through 2-3 gallons of washer fluid a month during the winter.

^No it doesnt i assure you.

I just called the local Dealership, It was Standard on the LX & SI(or ex in the US), It was NOT included on the DX, Reverb or SE(04-05 DX), But could have been added if requested.

Also in my owners manual it says "Some Canadian Models Only" but doesnt specify what one.

Interesting, I never realized that Canadians were so dumb they needed a light to tell them when their washer fluid was low.

Canadian models meaning BUILT for canada.
my light used to come on in turns i filled it right up to the spout and it was good after a bit of driving. my 05 se has the light. my 03 dx has the light also.

i assure you they have to be built for canada. most of the US doesnt have winters as bad as ours.
