City driving is much more harsh on mileage. Last I looked, no city is going to allow you to drive a constant uninterrupted 35mph. Fact of the matter is, this guy drives more miles in the city than on the highway, and STILL gets better mileage than you do driving constantly on the highway.
I personally get around 34-36mpg in the city, and thats flooring it only a few times having fun. When I say city, I mean constant stop and go, stops signs, signals, soldiers crossing the roads at random etc. When I'm on the highway, I'm around 38-42mpg.

Re: What rpm do you guys shift at on a normal basis?
Last I looked... 6mpg better is a lot.. considering he's not even on the highway where his Civic shines.
"probably average 34-42mpg"? Probably dont cut it. I GET over 40 on the highway. And thats a fact. And not hard to do. If you've never done it, you cant do it.
And like I just told you, when I say CITY, I mean on a tiny piece of land where there are nearly 100,000 people and not enough road. Military events, slow military-post speed limits, red lights, bumper-to-bumper traffic, constantly slamming on the brakes for soldiers that have a right-of-way to cross any street or highway they need to etc. I haven't dipped below 32mpg city yet, and that was driving extremely spiritedly in 80% city driving.

Re: What rpm do you guys shift at on a normal basis?
You are missing my point. You are comparing my 36mpg w/ 80% nut-to-butt city driving, to your 40% city driving. If you compare my highway mileage of 42mpg to your 32, 12mpg is no joke. Especially when I can have the cruise set for 80mph and get this mileage.
If you want extreme gas mileage, you dont buy the sporty EX or Si Hondas.. you buy a VX, DX, HX, or GX. Any one of those hondas get around 40-45mpg city and near 60mpg strictly highway driving.
On a sidenote, I love Volvos. The s60's are super awesome. I really have a thing for the cross countries too.

these engines take a beating. I shift at 4-4.5 regularly. Some of you said your redline is at 7 exactly mine for some reason is set at 7200. It gets redlined literally everytime i drive it.

damn, I've been getting 32/33 mpg steady nor mater how I drive... I get around 380 miles till the light comes on
I did just get new tires, was ridding on little rubber for about 6 months so maybe my gas millage will improve.
I do get 40mpg after pouring in some lucas.

Re: What rpm do you guys shift at on a normal basis?
In all fairness, traffic moves pretty well on my commute and I can cruise along at 60 km/h and ~2000 rpm for long stretches. Aside from that, it's all about a smooth takeoff and light, early braking.

35 mpg minimum no matter how i drive it. or thats the experience i've had, about 35% city 65 % highway. and thats spirited driving. i've driven easy before and mostly highway and have gotten about....45 mpg ish

I've been averaging around 417 miles to a tank, 11.9gallons.. 95% city driving. Thats a nice and healthy 35mpg.
On the highway, def. over 40mpg.

That's probably because you're not following your mileage that closely, just looking at how many miles you got every time you filled up, but didn't see how much fuel you precisely filled up with..

D'oh!
Hmm.. when creating my post.. I could have sworn that you didn't have any quote in yours. Of course, I was also away from the keyboard for a short period of time before I completed it, which would have left you enough time to add the quote to your post.
Either way .. my bad!
Or .. is it?! hahaha
