Default P1166 code on 2003 Civic Hybrid

Hi,

Dealer wants $651 to replace this sensor, opted not and now after coming back from the dealer the car is running really rough and when accelerating the car vibrates from side to side, if you disengage the tranny to Neutral while crusing, vibration goes away.

Stopped by auto parts store and they read this code:

P1166
Heated Oxygen Sensor
Bank 2 Sensor 1
Heater Malfunction

Now I know that the Hybrid has two cats, and three o2 sensors, so considering the output of the reader as above, which sensor is it complaining about, and would that sensor being bad cause the car to run so rough and vibrate?

The check engine light was on before we took it to the dealer but wasn't vibrating, so googling around and trying to decide what to do.

Recommendations (other than don't take it to the dealer, thanks)

..Dave..

I have the same code P1166 but dont knwo which sensor to buy and replace
your comment is highly appreciated.

Your Dealer probaly gave you a quote which will have the "part number". You can then buy the subject part and fix your code.

Thanks

Dave, the fact that your car wasn't exhibiting those vibration issues until after you refused dealership service leads me to suspect some foul play by a disgruntled employee. However, it has been two weeks since your initial post, so I don't know whether or not you've fixed your car yet.

Hello Dave,(and other people with p1166 code on 2003-2005 honda civic hybrid)
1) P1166 in "honda manual" pointed to "02 sensor air and fuel" , which is the first sensor on the exhaust manifold right after engine cylinder. This sensor is between the engine and catalytic convertor.
2)After a good amount of research I landed into "denso aftermarket website"
I used their online catlogue to get the denso part no "234-9005".
3) I took picture of my old sensor and compared the numbers printed on densos part, which I purchased from online. Both matched.(my old part was denso too)
4) Dealer was asking 380 for thsi part . On online the part was 120.This saved me 380-120= 260 dollars
5) After installing this sensor, I did replace the spark plug, as in my case it was very bad, which probably caused the 02 sensor to go bad (with p1166 code).
6) clear the code with OBD 2 scanner. Code did not come back.
Hope this help a lot of people.

*****I highly recommend that you check the spark plug for wear, as this may cause improper burning, which can lead to o2 sensor failure down the line.*****

Any code reader will do.
I used "bluetooth OBD reader" to read.
I used "actron code reader" to clear code. ( I did not have the bluetooth reader at that time)
