'03 Civic engine swap
Does anyone know if a '03 Civic engine can be removed from the bottom rather from the top? Or does anyone have a link on a how to page? Thanks..

the "official" way to do it is out the bottom. Its all laid out in the factory service manual.
you can yank the whole front clip out by undoing the lines and wires, tranny mount, the drivers side motor mount, the 6 subframe bolts, strut tower bolts and the tie rods. To just yank the motor, undo the motor mounts, lines, wires and axles, pull the subframe out and drop it on a hoist. If you can find a clutch replacement DIY, its going to be similar.
It comes out the top pretty easily, any reason you want to yank it from the bottom?

As you said the "official" way is to do it from the bottom. My question is can you do it from the top? And what would that mean in parts that need to be removed?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: '03 Civic engine swap
last year my engine and trans had to come out 13 times, this year only once so far. every time I pull mine I do it from the top I have done it from the bottom before It's a pain in the *** and a lot harder IMO. since I have removed all unnecessary bracket and relocated a couple of thing it usually only takes me 90 mins to pull the motor. that is going from when the floor jack hits the frame to lift the car off and start taking the wheels off.

I did my swap through the top and it was a piece of cake. I would recommend this way to anyone.
http://www.xproductionz.com/k20swap/k20swap.html has instructions for both top removal and bottom removal of the D17
