Key not working in ignition lock.
The key won't turn the lock. I have to jam it in a few times for it to work.
This is the second time this has happened in 2 years. I had the tumbler fixed at a lock smith the first time. Does anyone know why it would happen in such short a time? Should the keys also be replaced because of wear? I mean, the OEM lock lasted 9 years or so before this happened.

Re: Key not working in ignition lock.
Auto or 5 speed?
If a 5 speed it may be the key or the steering wheel lock release binding, if an auto it may also be the key or steering wheel release binding or the A/T Gear Position switch.
What condition is the key in?94

I had a similar issue in my 5 year old Hyundai Santa Fe. I spoke with a local locksmith and he said to try a little WD40. It made a big difference. One key may act up every month or so, but generally it works well now.

Re: Key not working in ignition lock.
An ignition key that won't turn can be both frustrating and time consuming. There are different reasons and much depends on the model of your car. You can try below mentioned modes which might solve your problem:-
- Before trying anything, check that your parking brake is on.
- Apply pressure to the key and turn the steering wheel back and forth to attempt to find a free spot where the key turns
- If you have an automatic transmission, check and make sure the selector is in park.
- Clean and lubricate the lock cylinder.
- On some lock cylinders, a tumbler may bind in a locked position, and the springs are unable to push it back out.
- Check the key itself
- Tap the key: Tap the end of the key, while in the ignition, with a hammer or hard object while attempting to turn the key. Warning, watch out for your fingers.
After trying all these modes if the problem is still not get solved it will be better to visit car service center.
