Default Immobilizer Key

I just purchased a 2001 Civic coupe and would like to make an extra set of keys in case of an emergency. I have the original and the "Valet" key, but would like to give an extra set to a friend while I am in Afghanistan for him to start the car up during the year that I am away. I know that I can go to the dealership to get a new key, but am looking for a cheaper way. I remembered there was a way to order a blank key with the correct trasponder for my 99 Corvette. Is there a way to purchase a blank key online with the correct immobilizer code without having to go to the dealer and pay their hefty sum?

Don't worry guys, I am not some amatuer car thief looking for ways to steal my neighbors car. I am just cheap.

You can probably pick up a blank on eBay, then get it matched at the dealership. Otherwise, you're not going to be able to get the keys matched.

Your car came with two regular(black), and one valet(grey) from the factory. I would be concerned why the seller did not provide you with the three keys, if the seller still refuses to provide you with the third key when asked I would get the dealer to delete the "missing" key from the key list that are able to start the car, be sure to bring other keys with you when having this done

Thanks for the answer. I will be sure to get a blank from Amazon when I return in 2014.

when the dealer programs the keys, they need to do all of them at the same time.
