How often are 2001+ Civics stolen?
My friend has a 2001 Honda Civic LX sedan automatic. It's a 10 year old car now so it's not worth a whole lot but she's wondering if it's worth it to buy comprehensive insurance for it.
It's 100% stock and semi dinged up so I doubt anyone would F with it, i.e. vandalize it but my only question is are these cars ever stolen? I understand that the 2001s have immobilizer (chip in key), is this a bullet proof system?
I can't see anyone stealing her stock car but I just wanted to check to make sure.
PS it still seems like older generation Japanese cars get stolen even today according to this article:

I've only heard of one successful "heist" .. but it turned out the car was actually repossessed, not stolen.
The only other case I've heard of was only an attempt to steal it, leaving the ignition in pretty bad shape.
I'm not saying these cars don't get stolen, but the chances of it happening are pretty darn slim.

Even if they do break into your car if you use your key to lock the trunk switch like I do. They can't get into your trunk with out the key.
Don't run you'll only die tired. Hooah

Yes they can. All they have to do is pry up the lock cylinder then pull the cable. Takes less than 10 seconds to access the trunk

it also depends on what you leave out in the open for some one to see. Where you live...where you park....a lot of crime depends on environmental design. Many factors must be taken into account. Lock your doors
