Hey all. Have a 2001 Civic with the ulev engine. At start up the car reaches normal operating tempature in a average amout of time. EXCEPT when the heater is running. Then it WILL not ever heat up. Matter of fact, if I let the engine heat up then turn the heater on, the temp gauge will go all the way down to cold and I have no heat. Contacted the local dealer about it, they said it was thermo. So I had my guy pop a thermo in. He was also going to bleed the collant system at the same time. Only the manual says the heater must be running and the car must reach operating temp to bleed system. He says it want reach min. heat requirments after installing thermo.
So he calls local dealer and is told, by two seperate people, that since this is a ulev engine it will not heat up while the heater is running. The only way to get it to reach temp is to have it in a heated garage. It want do it outside.
Has any one every heard of such a thing? To me that makes ABSOUTLEY no since what so ever. How am I supposed to defrost my windshield in the winter if it want get hot??
Oh one more thing I forgot. The tempature goes down quicker if I have the interior thermo on high. If I put it on med. it still goes down, but slower. Here again tho, this is AFTER I have allowed it to warm up without the heater going.
