Gas Tank Capacity
does the em2 coupe really have a 13.2 gallon tank? i drove my em2 til my light turn on and it only took alittle bit more than 10 gallon(10.XX) to top the tank. ****, if its really 13.2 gallon, i'm only getting 26mpg and i drive like a granny.

If you're getting sub-par fuel mileage, there are a few things you can do to coerce more miles out of the fuel. Changing the air filter, having the transmission checked/flushed, replacing the oil and filter, checking the spark plugs and their gaps (replacement if necessary), and then there's always Sea Foam (it's a chemical that attacks built up carbon, and there's procedures on how to use it floating around the site).

I'll do a search first though...

I heard bad things about sea foam.
Lucas on the other hand is king..
anyway, I ones filled up 16 gallons, upto the point where it started leaking out. I got almost 600 miles on that tank

I've heard about Sea Foam. I saw a video of a guy who put certain amounts in like 6 different fluids in his car (including gas). I was really spectacle, have you ever used it? I want to try it but I want to hear what people have to say about it first.

Anyway.. I haven't used it yet, but I hear good things about it.
Here's a link (I found searching. hint, hint) with a bit of info about Sea Foam: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-2001-2005-78/vac-line-seafoam-d17a-2554658/
You fit 16 gallons of gas into a tank that only holds 13.2? Hmmm..

Re: Gas Tank Capacity
The tank holds 13.2 before reserve and another 2 gallons in the feed tube.
I also pretty much ran out of gas and pushed teh car half a block to teh station to fill up so it was from a completely dry tank

You probably forced fuel into the evap. line (which is not good practice).

I have an 02 EX coupe with 63,000 miles. I'm averaging about 26 mpg also... and this includes 20% highway driving with the a/c on constantly ( people keep telling me ac doesnt use gas though?) Granny driver here too
Iv'e always felt my car drank a lot of gas... even when it only had 15,000 miles

Re: Gas Tank Capacity
there must be something wrong. no way its a 13.2 gallon tank. if it took me alittle over 10gallon to top off after the light turn on, then it would have about 3 gallons in reserve. that rediculous, i can drive atleast 90 miles with that.

With AC worst I got is 29
26 is wayy to low. Check your tire pressure, tire wear, wheel bearings, alignment, filters, spark plugs, fuel injectors, aerodynamics. Make sure calipers arnt seizing up, pour in some lucas fuel injector cleaner, that should at 5mpg for that tank and clean up some crud.
Car has just under 2 gallons reserve, I found out my reserve is exactly 52 miles, it is not part of fuel tank capacity.
Not all pump auto turn off at the same time. depends on the ambient temperature and pump condition. I had plenty of pump not turn off and spill out 3 gallons

Re: Gas Tank Capacity
Well I know my car needs an alignment for sure- when I let go of the steering wheel the car pulls heavily to the right. Tire pressure is ok, but the back tires are a cheap brand and are pretty old. Air filter is new, but not sure about spark plugs and the rest of the engine stff you mentioned. I do know my brakes make all kinds of clunking noises though...
I swear at one point I was getting about 20mpg...untill I tossed the k&n air filter and filled up my tires to maximum.
Might as well be driving a v8...

Re: Gas Tank Capacity
Sea-Foam in the brake booster is THE way to go. One can in the brake booster (look up the method..) and one can in the gas tank to clean up inbetween the tank and injectors.
I've used seafoam on nearly ALL my cars, and every single one of them resulted in being more responsive, a bit quicker (the cars w/ more miles benefited more), and better fuel mileage.
As far as averaging your mileage, you just divide the mileage you went by the amount of gallons you put in. I can pretty much guarantee your not getting 26mpg unless there is some serious issues with your Civic.

Re: Gas Tank Capacity
You need to drop by Firestone or w/e and have them do a quick inspection of why you car is pulling. That is probably 80% of your fuel lose. Get whatever is wrong fixed, get new tires, poor alignment causes bad tire wear, if you sparks are over 2 years old replace em. If brakes make noise, either heavy wear, bad bearings or seizing calipers, have them look at that too.
Lucas oil, its like $3.50

The spark plugs have never been replaced since buying the car in 2004.
The brakes have always made weird noises. They make like a clinging noise when I release them from a complete stop ( or release parking brake). Sometimes they feel as is they are slipping and having trouble gripping and make a clicking noise when braking at slow speeds( the best way I can describe it).
One more thing... the first two years of ownership I drove with my gas light on half the time ...would this cause any sort of problems with gas mileage?
Oh yeah and thanks for recommending that oil stuff I might go buy some today.

Re: Gas Tank Capacity
That is what I did- filled up all the way, then drove about 150-200 miles ( depending on the occasion) and then filled up again. Used a calculator and everything...averaged 26 mpg and one time when I did a lot of freeway driving it was 27mpg. Yup something is definately wrong.

Re: Gas Tank Capacity
it took alittle over 10 gallon to top off after the light go on. i drove for 350 mile before the light comes on again. so am i getting 35mpg? im confuse because if it take about 10 gallon to fill up then y do everyone says it have a 13.2 gallons. it can't possibly have an extra 3 gallons after the light goes on.
