EVAP code P1457, where is canister?
Hi- My 2004 Civic has the CEL light on. I checked the code with an OBD2 scanner and got the P1457 code. I have replaced the gas cap with no luck and now I want to take a look at the vacuum hoses on the Vapor/Charcoal canister. The problem is: I can't find it! If someone could tell me where it is I would be grateful. A pic would be awesome, but a location description would be great also.
thanks

Under the car, next to the gas tank. P1457 has been covered before. Here are a couple old links...

I'm sure there are more, but you'll have to do you own searching. Also, I highly recommend you buy yourself a service manual. I mean, really, you didn't even know where the EVAP system is located so I wouldn't go fooling around with it unless you have some form of guidance.
Here's a link to the manual. Click here.

Re: EVAP code P1457, where is canister?
Thanks, I did see these posts which is why I wanted to look at the canister. And thanks for the advice about not fooling around with things that I don't know about. I agree. I have had pretty good luck however over the years with taking a look at things and seeing if there is something obvious and/or simple going on. If not, I do bring it to the professionals. In this case, I thought I might see a hose hanging loose or clearly in poor shape and could maybe reconnect or replace it. I have been under the car and under the hood and haven't seen what I think is the canister yet.
thanks

It's cool. As noted in one of the other threads in regards to P1457; the troubleshooting procedure is rather lengthy and it would be much easier to recommend the purchase of a manual than it would be for me (or others) to try explaining component descriptions and locations, etc.
It could be something with the purge valve, which is located in the engine bay, or it's something with the canister system, which is next to the fuel tank.
If the troubleshooting guide weren't so lengthy I'd probably just draw it up. If you click this link you can at least see the component diagram.
It really is worth buying the manual, though. It'll save you plenty of headaches and labor costs in the long run.
I wish I could do more to help with this, but it's nearly impossible to explain things in detail. You'll also need some specialty tools to test vacuum pressures and such.

Re: EVAP code P1457, where is canister?
Thanks again for the help. I have seen that diagram and the canister looks like something I should be able to see but I'll be darned if I can spot it. Is it up above the tank? Or if its on the side of the tank, which side?
Does make sense to pick up a manual. Probably will do it.
How much do you figure it would cost to diagnose and fix this at a shop?
thanks
