Default Do D17 valves tick on acceleration?

When idling, the valves would tick when cold but the sound would disappear once warmed up. It also appeared that they made a ticking sound when the engine was revved under any kind of load (no ticking if revved in neutral). This sound never changed whether the car was warm or cold. It's not very loud but noticeable if all music is turned off and the window is down.

Anyway, I adjusted my valves on the weekend. Now the car is quiet at idle but it still makes ticking sounds when the engine is under load. It doesn't do it when I rev it in neutral though. Anyone know if this sound is due to ticking valves? Is it normal? It's only noticeable if I drive with my music off and windows rolled down.

note i have the sohc vtec motor

Is it a tick? or knock?

Mine doesnt have that sound at all. How often do you do your oil changes? What kind of oil do you use?

it's definitely not a knock. i'd call it a ticking sound. i think it might be the fuel injectors since they would be spraying more fuel under load, but i never took notice of how em2 fuel injectors are supposed to sound like.

oil changes are always done at 6000km or sooner using a brand name dyno oil. oil filter is usually a napa gold or wix. the head looks spotless and my car does not burn any oil. the cam lobes and rollers had no scoring marks etc.

With that being said, you have me stumped. The last time I had a tick... it turned into a knock.. and then I had a valve problem. Not good. I'm not trying to say that will happen to you... It probably wont. But do keep an eye on it and get it checked asap.

Hmm.. are you sure the noise is coming from the engine and not the transmission?

My engine ticks, but nothing excessive. Just normal "chatter."

Is this noise a recent development, or has it always done it?

Edit: How many miles are on your car? Manual or automatic? If it's manual, still on the stock clutch? Is the noise in sequence with the engine / RPMs, or is it sporadic?

it's not a loud tick (i'd say the average person will never even think much of it), but it is a ticking sound that's audible only when ambient sound is fairly quiet. it might be normal chatter.

as for how long it has been there...i'm guessing a very long time? i noticed it 4-5 years ago. the car currently has 125000km on it. the noise is in sequence w/ the engine rpms but it's only present when the car is under any kind of load. it doesn't do it when the engine is revved in neutral or park.

hey dude I know what is your problem I got the same just 1 day before the end of my warranty on june 2010 I have a civic reverb 2005 and it was the transmission it begin exactly like you the first few days it was doing that song after that it will do louder sounds coming from the transmission and if you push your clutch on neutral it stop it was the release bearing and the syncro from the first and second speed on your transmission. If you got a warranty it will cost approx 320 $ because the guy will recommend you to change your clutch for a new one on the same way he was working on it plus a new release bearing if your not cover it will cost you a lot about 1000$ and more.
I hope that will help you bcz that sound was really hard on your trans if you do nothing for ! GO check to your local honda dealer they will know what to do.
