- my 04 civic ex 5speed 210K

about 2 week ago i start notice, whenever i started to accelerate, i heard this humming sound. it don't sound like the heat shield cause heat shield would sound like it rattling.

only happen when i accelerate in low speed from 0-30mph. anything above 40, im not sure due to road noise.

my brother, thinking it can be the axle going bad, because most likely it original axle. or possible the tranny. making the humming noise.

any sug, where to look? will have a mechanic check my suspension too. thanks also the car is stock, never abuse. ride really really good, no check engine light.

It could also be a wheel bearing.

I'm going to suggest that it's the wheel bearings as well. Have the tires rotated to see if this humming sound ceases.

I have also heard of a case in which the fuel feed hose (ref #3 in this diagram) would rub against other components in the fuel sending system, thereby causing a humming sound.

I'd say that the wheel bearing, and perhaps also the hub bearings, is the more likely culprit..

Once again, thank toyo and techtalk. My mechanic also say it most likely the wheel bearing. It still drive perfect and don't really bothering me but should I should change it ASAP? How long will it roughly take to get it done. And the part cost of the wheel bearing?

Also another question, I want to change my gear fluid, thinking castrol full synthenic. Which one I should get? Any else suggestion. Thank.

Descriptions of sounds vary. I had a humming that I thought was a wheel bearing and it turned out to be from the tires that were down to the wear bars and were slightly cupped from the rear wheels being slightly out of alignment. I put on new tires and the hum went away.

If the wheel bearing won't solve the problem. I will deff buy some new tire since I need some soon (before winter)

I don't believe it have to do with the alinement. Cause the car ride perfectly straight, doesn't pull to the left or right.

My car tracked straight because the front wheels were true..it was the rear alignment being out that caused the tires to be cupped and made the noise..after going through the several rotations.
