Default Bizarre Flasher Problem 02 Civic EX

Hey all,

So I finally thought I would join, because after so many threads I've seen, on here and other forums, I could never discover the answer to the flasher issue I'm having on my turn signals. Plus, two of the forums I have posted on have only had about 1-3 users comment to no avail. I will post all tests I've done on after I explain the problem.

2002 Honda Civic EX

Long story short, my turn signals work just fine during the day. However, when I flip my lights on at night, obviously my turn signals stay illuminated, but when I engage either the left/right turn signal, it won't flash. It shows its flashing like usual in my car, just not the front turn signals. They just remain illuminated as if I never flipped the turn signal(s).
And I've never found a single forum or an answer on every Google search you could imagine. Thus, why I'm here.

Let me also add, that the previous owner converted the stock 7443 bulb/harness this model uses for turn signals, into 1157 bulb/harness. Has worked for 2yrs. One day in winter about last year, one of them weren't secure enough in the housing of the headlight, and fell out. I also don't have fenderwell shields, so when it fell out, the harness got caught in the wheel and ripped it out. I ordered a pair of pigtails to mimic the harness. Obviously works because the vehicle still flashes a normal blink sequence when running lights are off. But, like mentioned, when lights are on..the turn signals will illuminate, but won't flash during. So, I removed the cover under the hood for now..due to eliminating that hypothesis because every other operation of the turn signals work (Flasher on;hazard light on)

The following is what I have completed to identify the problem and eliminate any others:
  • Replaced both fuses (Under-Hood;In-Dash)
  • Replaced stock flasher relay with Flasher Relay W/ Resistor (this did solve hyper flashing issue
  • Tested both incandescent and LED bulbs and also tested one at a time
  • Rewired all three wires on wiring harness (12v Constant, 12v Intermittent, Ground) to ensure here isn't a short, bad connection, or hole in harness
  • Cleaned connector pins on bottom of new bulbs, as well as socket.

In conclusion, nothing has worked. I've already gotten bad experiences from the two other forums because I couldn't find this one. Hope I get responses on this. If anyone has suggestions or wish to ask if I have tried it yet, please do, and I'll answer promptly. Because I could have tried something, but can't remember, haha. Thank you.

The one component you did not mention you checked in the circuit is the combination light/turn signal switch (stalk).

What is odd is when you turn the lights on, you get the signal indicators working in the instrument cluster but the actual signal lights do not work. You sure the grounds to each signal bulb are OK? How about the turn signal/hazard relay? Multiplex control unit OK?

Turn signal stalk works fine. Like I mentioned, it flashes fine when running lights are off, for example, during the day.

Yes I have replaced the relay for the random chance it would be the issue, even though it flashes fine when lights are off during daytime.

Multiplex Unit is just fine. Even though vehicles sometimes have a mind of their own when it comes to electrical issues, I would feel that if the random chance that only the relay terminal would be corrupted, it would be an all-or-nothing (they would either work or not work, not just one operation out of the entire relay terminal)

Thank you for your response!
