Default Before I go to a mechanic.....HELP!!!

Car: 2001 Civic DX

Problem: Car starts and after a couple of seconds it dies. It is plenty of gas.

Car was drien from LA to Costa Mesa and back yesterday with no problems. The wife leaves for works and comes back and says the car died. I tried giving it a jump. same problem. It has plenty of gas. Starts then dies.

What could the problem be?

I was going to look on the ECU. Let me look at the cluster. BTW, is that ECU under the dash above the AC crap?

Yes, but you don't need to remove the A/C equipment to get at it. You need to trim the plastic panel under the glove box (yes, that's per the instructions in the service manual). Then remove the glove box brace, and you'll be able to remove the ECU.

What is holding the ECU in place? I have the glove box removed. I can see the ECU, but what is holding it in place so i can't take it out. Is there bolts or screws holding a bracket or something?

There's like 3 10mm bolts holding it. But why are you trying to remove it? Did you check for cel codes?

There's a bracket and some 10mm bolts (if memory serves me right).

Aside from what others are suggesting check your voltage with the engine running if it starts with a jump but then dies maybe the alternator is not charging

You won't get anywhere pulling the ECU.

You need to rent an OBII scanner from the parts store and check the car for codes.

What he said... You can rent or buy them from Autozone or Oreilly's... The OBD II port should be driver side behind the center console...

What happens if you have no CEL codes!!!!. I tested the battery and replaced it with brand new battery and battery cables trying to jump start, it will turnover and die just as fast.
I have noticed that the fuel pressure is very low. could that also be your problem. Readings are not normal. (less than 5pi).
what more could i look for? its 03 civic ex4dr

I took it to one mechanic and they couldnt figure out what was wrong. Said it was probably something wrong with the anti theft. Took it to Honda and they said the timing jumped. I asked the guy if that was the cause because the car kept trying to be started over and over or the ECU or fuel pump gone bad. I told them take the head off and I will have it inspected and fixed. Hopefully, once it is back together that will solve the problem. I just need the wife to get one more year out of this car before we get a new one.

Gen3, Tunner, yes i replaced a fuel pump today and car started just fine.
