all cylinders misfire?

all cylinders misfire?
i got a 2001 acura 1.7 EL, started to jerk a couple days back at about 85 km/h, plugged the comp to it and gives me a series of codes, all 4 cylinders misfires , and a code for multiple cylinder misfire. now i am aware that usually misfire are caused by coil packs, wiring or spark plugs, but this model has 1 coil per cylinder if i am not mistaken, if a coil pack would go bad, only 1 cylinder would misfire? right ? does anyone know what could cause all 4 of them to do this ?

Re: all cylinders misfire?
dont think it is overheating, ill check it out tonight, check compression too, ive heard someone having this kind of trouble and said it turned out to be intake manifold gasket, ill have a bit of checking to do tonight, i got oil on a spark plug tread too.

Re: all cylinders misfire?
is there a way to test a coil pack to see if its still good, because usually misfires are caused buy faulty coil packs, but i dont feel like buying 4 coil packs at 75$ each to find out that it wasnt the problem

Re: all cylinders misfire?
Has any work recently been done to the engine?
How's your EGR doing? (if you have one, that is)
Checked all the plugs yet? How do they look? (I know you mentioned oil on the threads of one, but...)
Timing is okay?
How's the fuel pressure doing? (should be 40-47 psi)
Checked your grounds and other various connections?
How many miles are on the car?
Compression is good? Valve clearances are to spec?
If you're able to - search and save the freeze data for the misfire(s).
Any other lights coming on? Anything related to the charging system?
If it were only one cylinder misfiring - you could swap two coil-packs around to determine whether or not one is bad. However, since all cylinders are misfiring, that isn't going to work.
Anyone likely to pull a prank on you or are out to get you? I mean, is it possible someone has poured something into your fuel tank?
Not to be rude, but this too is a topic which has been thoroughly covered over the years.

Re: all cylinders misfire?
Has any work recently been done to the engine? -- no
How's your EGR doing? (if you have one, that is) -- ill check tonight
Checked all the plugs yet? How do they look? (I know you mentioned oil on the threads of one, but...) -- white, no physical damage, the cylindre completly to the left has oil
Timing is okay? -- what is the correct timing? ill check tonight
How's the fuel pressure doing? (should be 40-47 psi) -- can i check the pressure with the comp, or do i need to plug in a gauge ?
Checked your grounds and other various connections? -- ill check tonight
How many miles are on the car? -- 147 000 -- i have to check if it hasnt been rolled back, starting to get doubts.
Compression is good? Valve clearances are to spec? -- what is original compression, ill check tonight, how can i check valve clearence ? do i have to remove the head for that ?
If you're able to - search and save the freeze data for the misfire(s).
Any other lights coming on? Anything related to the charging system? -- no
thanks alot, this is really helping me out BTW !

Re: all cylinders misfire?
to keep you posted, i worked on it last night, replaced a ground that was badly damaged, cleared the check engine light and tried it, didnt come on again yet. tonight ill go try it on the higway, since it used to do this at around 85 km/h. oil on the spark was valve cover gasket, did not check compression yet for that reason, found out the car is in a bad need of a good tune up, so ill start from there if it does it again

Re: all cylinders misfire?
8±2° BTDC
T-fitting and a gauge, unfortunately.
The mileage is stored in the cluster. I doubt you'll be able to find any traces of tampering. I also recommend reading the maintenance schedules to see what else you should think about replacing.
135 psi (minimum) with a max variation of 28 psi.
No, just remove the valve cover. It's all covered in the FAQ's...
