My 2002 Civic has been making some strange noise for about two months, and it's getting bigger and bigger recently. it comes from under the hood on the dirver's side. i opened the hood to check it and sounds like from somewhere near or under the engine. (i really know little about cars.) so i took it to Pep Boys today for a full engine diagonistic. cost me 85 bucks. But the guy said the a/c compressor clutch was going bad and should be replaced. On the printout of the results, their comments were:

"ac compressor"
"drier"
"orfice tube"

Their quota to do these was about $1000! including parts and labor.


is it really the a/c clutch making the big noise? but when i turned the a/c off, the noise was getting lower at all. btw, i really can hear the noise much bigger when pushing the gas pedal.

any suggestions? should i just change the clutch or go to another garage?

btw, my Civic has only 40K miliage but i drove it at 20 mph a lot on campus. would this have damaged the engine seriously?

if the compressor took a crap inside itself u need to replace the whole system cause the trash will clog the lines or u just might need the ac compressor clutch and coil

the guy at pep boys said it was only the clutch, the compressor should be okey. but they could not find a supplier who sold the clutch only, so their quota was for the whole thing, including the compressor. that's what they said.

probably i'll need to find a clutch myself and take it to another garage. would it really be difficult to get the clutch only, as the guy said?

auto or manual?
if manual, input shaft bearings and throwout bearings, nuff said. I have your problem. Nothing with the A/C though.
