New Civic guy, dual CEL codes!
Hi all,
Faced with a long daily commute (all freeway, 75mph, 1hr each way) I recently got a 2003 Civic LX 5-speed. Have 145K on it and have had no trouble whatsoever except for how to spend the extra money I've been saving on gas.
Yesterday on the way to work I noticed the check engine light pop on. On my lunch break the car stalled at stop lights and in the drive-through a couple times. I was able to keep it running by touching the gas and keeping the idle up around 1K rpms. If I took my foot off, it would go down to normal idle and sometimes be fine, but sometimes immediately die (no sputter or rough running, just quit).
Stopped by AZ on the way home and they gave me two codes: P0340 and P0341. Suggested I buy the Camshaft Position Sensor and replace it.
My questions are:
1. In my research I've now seen this part called the CPS, CKP, CMP, etc. Are these all the same sensor, the one on the front of the engine under the timing chain cover? I have also not seen anyone else who got both of these codes at the same time?
2. What are the other dumb, simple things to check before I dive into replacing the sensor? I am reading a lot of horror stories on the web, of people chasing these codes around the car with no resolution.
Thanks all -- and for the great forum! Been reading for months, just haven't needed to ask anything yet!
