Default 01 Civic Struts

Anyone have problems with their front struts? I heard that the sturts aren't the greatest design and often wear after 70-80k...

Just wanted to check in and see if anyone had problems or had to replace them.

TIA

I'll tell ya' in about 50,000 miles. I haven't had any problems yet, but I don't have near that amount in mileage.

if you have stock suspension they should last 100k.

there's a lot of variables though, like the style of driving and road conditions you drive in.

Ok good to know. The car in question has had them replaced before at around 100k.

When replacing the struts..

Do you just replace the shock part of the strut? Or the whole assembly. Yeah of course if the other parts (springs) are messed up of course. But on a whole, is it reasonable to reuse the springs and the rest of the old parts?

And its it typically just the strut that fails? Or something else in the assembly?

I don't know if the MacPherson stuff is much different than the double wishbone we are all used to.

Thanks

So what did you end up replacing? The whole assembly w/spring? or just the strut?

struts were only replaced...

if you had bad springs you would know it... one side would sag lower than the rest etc etc, and you would bottom out at the wheel well at every bump plus hear a sound driving over literally anything,

7thgen civic is the worst design out of all the civics and the 01 civic is probably the worst built civic ever. If you have the money upgraded to tein coilovers with pillowball mounts.
