2003 Honda Civic DX
Hi! Totally new to this site been looking at it as a guest for a long time now! Was just curious if anyone would know how much a complete rebuild on a 2003 Honda Civic DX would be, it has the d17a1 in it and i dont want to change a thing about it, love the motor very reliable and im not searching for more power. Money is no problem what so ever.
Any response would be greatly appreciated!!

financially, yes. depending on what is wrong with it, or what you are trying to improve, it may not cost $2500.
so i ask, why are you looking to replace/rebuild the motor?

Re: 2003 Honda Civic DX
Well my current civic has about 400000 kms on the motor and tranny, i just wanna know before hand how much approximately i am going to need for it cause I'm just truly in love with the car, and would rather do that instead of buying myself a new car.

Re: 2003 Honda Civic DX
well if i were you i would take it to a good/ trustworthy mechanic that knows how to work on hondas and tell them to take apart the block and see if anything needs to be rebuilt. if so, have him replace the parts with new honda OEM parts. that way you arent paying for a full rebuild... but if you can, i would urge you to rebuild it yourself. there is big difference between manual and automatic transmissions. for a manual, you can buy a completely rebuilt one for around $450-$500. you can also have you manual transmission rebuilt for around $350-$475. an automatic can cost around $2k for a rebuilt one.

Okay, Thanks a lot for all the info. You've been a great help, and i did not know it was that much of a difference from manual and automatic. Deffinetly gonna keep it manual,

from my own point of view, manual transmission will almost always be better simply because its easier to fix as well as more cost effective. the maintenance is also easier to do.
