2002 LX Check engine light on and reads a P1298........
Ok so a P1298 is a Electric load detector circuit. Has anyone had this code before and replaced the ELD???
Where exactly is it if anyone has a pic? How do you test the ELD?

There's also a TSB in the FAQ's (look for DTC P1298) -> https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2189650

Problem with that forum is some say that code ended up being an 02 sensor. Not sure how the 2 can be related.
There are no straight answers.

The Moderator gearbox in link one clearly stated:
you only need to replace the eld located in the fuse box.
And copied from link number two:
You need to replace your ELD....I had the same code after turbo install oddly enough. Honda use to make you buy the entire fuse box....now you can just replace the ELD unit...here's part #
DTC P1298 Is Stored in the ECM/PCM
(Supersedes 05-006, dated February 25, 2005, to change the CR-V model-year range)
SYMPTOM
DTC P1298 (electrical load detector (ELD) circuit high
voltage) is stored in the ECM/PCM.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The electronic load detector (ELD) has a faulty solder
joint.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the ELD.
NOTE: Previously, if an ELD required replacement, you
had to replace the under-hood fuse/relay box. To
reduce repair costs, replacement ELDs are now
available.

Seems like a pretty straight answer to me. The 02 sensor code you read in link two was P0138, not the P1298 you inquired about.

The ELD is the Brown thing in your under hood fuse box. The last time I priced 1 for a 97 civic it was $1200.00 from the dealer. The spedo was acting like a tach sort of. It was jumping all over the place. The problem ended up being a blown ALT Fuse.

To save a few bucks, I recommend ordering one from an online Honda parts source. Like here, for example.
But you can probably just go down and get one from your local Honda dealership. Call them with the part number and see what they say.

Re: 2002 LX Check engine light on and reads a P1298........
Based on the input from this site I have replaced myself for
my 2001 honda civic ELD(P/N 38255-S5A-003) electrionic load detector.
Today i went NJ MVC inspection and i passed. So happy.
ELD(P/N 38255-S5A-003) is $35 at Honda dealer.
Basically autozone and other auto stores Test Engine check for free. Just 2 mins to identify the Error code.

Hi, I know this post is over two and a half years old, however I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post pictures and give an informative response to this problem. It was very straightforward and without a lot of dribble that usually accompanies questions. Also thank you for saving my wife and I great deal of money by not having to take it to a repair shop or dealership !
