2002 Civic EX Head Gasket
Hi,
I'm pretty new to this site, but have been checking around. My car is pushing coolant from the radiator to the overflow. I changed the radiator cap and thermostat, so after doing some checking, it has to be the head gasket. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, so I'm going to do the job myself in a couple of weeks. Is there any specific gasket, or gasket set to get? Any help on this job would be greatful, including tips on torquing the head back on and such. Thanks

Ok, thanks. Are there any other ideas? I'm wary of getting an OEM head gasket because it seems like these are more apt to fail.. I'm thinking about getting the FelPro gasket

I don't think the gasket is the problem. There is some kind of design or manufacturing flaw with the D17 engine it seems. For what it's worth, I used a Beck/Arnley head gasket "kit" on our EM2 back in May and it's holding up great so far. Its design is very similar to oem.

Go with the OEM. Make sure your head isn't warped. But in all honesty, even if it is not warped, I would still recommend getting it resurfaced a little. just to be on the safe side. Yes it is fixing something that may not need to be fixed, but i know for sure that when my motor overheated in summer '09, i got it resurfaced, and 55,000 miles later, after the resurfacing and OEM replacement parts, INCLUDING the head gasket, my motor is running strong.

Alright, thanks for your input everybody. I'm tearing into it on Thursday night, so I may just get it resurfaced and put it back together. Are there any tips or tricks on taking it off and putting it back on??
