Hello All,

I'm replacing the timing belt on my 2002 Honda Civic 1.7 LX.

As you can see from the pics, it's a tight fit. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do to get this on?

First and foremost, yes the car is top dead center and crank aligned with marks.

I've tried tightening the tensioner for back, far forward, loosening it. I've tried loosening the water pump. Seems no matter what I do, it's just ever so short.

I feel like I can "walk it on" the cogs but if I do that, the cars timing marks are probably going to come out of alignment.

Any advice please? I've been at this for about 2.5 hours now with no luck.

It Wasn't Me

Pop the spring, twist the allen screw on the tensioner counter clockwise, install the belt, twist the allen screw clockwise, reinstall spring.

Should do the trick.



You did get the correct belt, right?

I think you'll have to pull that pin in the tensioner, to rotate the pulley more.

Part # is correct on the belt.
