2001 Honda Civic EX, broken timing belt

Re: 2001 Honda Civic EX, broken timing belt
I'm new to this site and I need help with my daughter's 2001 Honda Civic Coupe. Right now the car is sitting in my garage because we are stumped. I have taken the car to the Honda Dealership and they said it was the thermostat but that didn't fix the car.
Anyway here goes....
At first the car was running hot and we had the thermostat, radiator and radiator cap replaced. The car was still running hot and we drove it for a while then the car quit on the expressway. Now when we try to start the car it will not turnover. You can hear a little clicking sound when we try to start it but that's all.
After reading this Thread I'm wondering if it could be the timing belt all along. Can someone give me some advice or troubleshooting options.

What's the milage on the car?The way you describe ,sounds like a dead battery.Start by that. You can crank the engine over and have someone look in side the oil fill hole. You should see the rockers move,if they do move ,you will have to do a compression test.Thats the quickest test to do.Get the car to run properly before troubleshooting the overheating problem.
I tried to start the car again and it will turn over but it will not catch. There is a weird sound while the engine is turning over such as a shushing sound. I'm thinking water is in the engine.
