I just got a 2001 honda civic lx with 207,000 miles and had to do an oil change. The last owner had no idea what kind of oil they used, so we used 10w 40, is that overkill?

That's entirely too heavy of a weight. Honda recommends 5W20 or 0W20...at that mileage I would stick to 5W20.

why the hell would you put that 10w 40 in your motor when the cap says 5w20?
