03 civic with overheating problems
I had my radiator replaced by the dealer, and two weeks later top hose from the radiator to the coolant resevoir started popping off. I put a clamp on it, then a little later the cap to the coolant resevoir started popping off.
Took it to the dealer to find out what was going on and mechanic thought it was a blown head gasket but was not sure. I had another mechanic look at it, he ran a compression test, and it was perfect. No coolant in the oil, spark plugs looked good.
Anyways, problems continued so I took it back to the dealer.
Mechanic saw a groove in the radiator just under the cap, which hasn't allowed the cap to seal, resulting in the coolant being shot into the overfill. He thinks this caused a blown head gasket.
Honda tells me that my radiator is not under warranty and I need a new one, plus a new head gasket.
Another mechanic said he thinks that air got into the system when the radiator was replaced.
Parts and service director told me that the radiator cannot cause head gasket problems, but head gasket causes radiator problems? He also said that air in the system would not cause hoses or overfill cap to pop off. Is this true, or is he full of BS, so he doesn't have to pay for bad workmanship?

is the car even smoking? smell your exhaust is it sweet smelling? a lot of mechanics will say that the headgasket went so they can make money...a bad radiator cap could have been the issue the whole time...it started when you got your rad replaced at the dealer right? and their not taking any responsibility for any of it? bs man i'd be raising hell

No smoke, no sweet smell. Yes, I got my radiator replaced at the dealer. I've been bitching to the Parts and Service director, and his best excuse is "It was replaced by a Honda Master Tech." Who freakin' cares, they make mistakes just like the rest of us. And I'm not even blaming the original mechanic, if it was a faulty cap then they should fix the problem.

After fighting with the Parts and Service director for two weeks along with American Honda Motors, they told me there wasn't anything I could do, because the reports that the mechanic had made were too vague. I then had my mechanic give this ******* a call, and in 30 minutes he conviced the Parts and Service Director that he had no clue what he was talking about.
Turns out he didn't even know how the engine worked, and the honda "master" tech, along with the engineers at American Honda Motors didn't know what they were talking about either.
They can't even prove the headgasket was ever blown, because come to find out they didn't run any tests.
They have agreed to install a new radiator, plus a head gasket free of charge.
That's a big F-U to American Honda Motors, and to Bob Howard Honda!
