Hey guys this is my first post here so bare with me xD. i have a 03 civic lx with 137k miles on it and for some reason it started to jerk on shifts and some times wont shift ( its auto tran ) so i was at my mechanic and he checked the oil and it was dark brown. he told me its supposed to be red and so on to the conclusion that he told me to drive it to the ground till the tranny dies which kinda seems like its close to dying because its acting up xD. So i always heard that a manual tran on these models of civic from 01 to 05 for the d17a1 are good enough to last much longer than an auto one. so idk i asked my mechanic he told me he will give me a great price if i just got an auto tranny and he swapped that out with the going to be dead auto tranny in my car but he told me to buy another tranny ones my cars tranny hits the dead zone. So thats the story now the QUESTION ------> should i buy a manual tranny and what do i need list of items i mean.

the mechanic should have simply drained 3 quarts of tranny fluid and refilled it with only honda transmission fluid.

I too would have drained and refilled with Honda ATF first before considering swapping a trans. especially if the ATF was dark and never serviced.
