01 EX Knocking noise
2001 Civic EX Automatic
215K Miles
The transmission has started to go, 1st gear wasn't working at all only goes from 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. It was shifting hard. Knowing that I was going to get a new transmission/torque converter anyways. I drove it for a while.
Then out of no where I started hearing a knocking. Sounds like a rod knock. But I'm not sure if a rod knock would cause the engine to stall. I press the gas and the car barely moves. But the knocking gets faster as I give it acceleration. At idle it feels like it will barely stay on. At one point. I pressed the gas, the car completely stalled. Sometimes the knocking goes away at idle or you barely hear it. Another symptom for example, I am driving 30mph, the knocking is going on when my foot is on the gas but when I let go of the gas and its sitting around 2k rpm, the knocking gets quiet or isnt noticeable.
I did a compression test: 180-175-175-175
So my question is would it be the torque converter causing that knocking? or a bad rod bearing?
I just dont want to buy a new tranny and torque converter then find out the motor is bad too.
Thanks!
