i just installed a new radio in my civic 01. My husband and brother installed the last one and made a mess. There is a thick blue wire that wasnt attached to the radio, which i'm guessing was the antenna since there was no signal. I dont know if they did it, but it doesnt have a male connector that i would need to connect to the new radio. Is the plain wire normal? If it is or isnt, how can i connect it now to the new radio. Do i need to buy and solder a connector to it?

Not sure what you mean here, if there is a blue wire that is coming out from the back of the new radio and isn't connected to anything this is most likely the 'remote turn on' wire. This is a wire that's used to control an external amplifier if one is being used. If you're not using an external amplifier, then you don't need to connect this wire to anything. you can just leave it be. If you have a blue wire coming out of the dashboard that isn't connected to anything...i Have no idea what that is. If you aren't getting any music at all when you turn on the radio, then that could be a separate problem. The radio antenna connection is going to be a large black plug lookin thing.

It Wasn't Me

If it's a solid blue wire coming out of the dashboard, but not connected to the harness or anything else, it's likely the remote power turn-on wire that someone previously installed.
You don't need to worry about this. It isn't hot. (no 12v power)

In this photo .. you can see a lone, thick blue wire connected to the stereo. (has a blue tag on it, also) That is the remote power wire. It runs behind my dash, under the carpet and into the trunk.

The thick black cable (barely visible in the photo, but it's to the right of the A/C button) is the antenna.


Edit: If it's a blue wire coming out of the stereo itself.. and you're not using it for anything.. just snip the end of it off and wrap a piece of electrical tape over it.

k, thanks u guys. It was buggin the hell out of me. I guess the antenna cable is somewhere back there, i just didnt see it. The blue cable i figured out that it was for an amp, except that we dont have one, lol. I guess the previous owner was going to, but never got to it so she left the cable there in case we wanted to. Thank u guys so much, the pic helped alot especially.

... they could have at least left the RCA cables, too! Ahaha! It would save you some work if you decided to install an amp and sub(s).
