01 Civic LX no start
Hello all,
Just picked up this little 2001 Honda Civic LX 4 door white, auto, about 160k miles. Guy I picked it up from said the fuel pump went out and he didnt know how to fix it, seemed accurate because when I turned the key there was no sound from the pump. Ran down to the auto store for a new battery and a pump, plugged it all in, heard it prime, and I figured I was good. Turned the key, and it just cranked. So then I started going down the list, does it have spark? Pulled the coils, they arc'ed blue when I turned it over. Pulled the plugs, they had gas on them. Took some scotch bright and cleaned them up, reinstalled. Before reinstalling I made sure they sparked when the motor turned. Then I pulled the timing belt cover to make sure it was tight and turning, and it was. Still, it only turns over but wont even sputter. Now I'm wondering if bad gas can cause this. The car was sitting over a year with a full tank, but it does smell pretty bad and has turned dark in color. Is this enough to keep it from starting? I've had a few chevys in the past that would run like crap on bad gas, but they'd at least sputter. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: 01 Civic LX no start
Is everything is good at least it should try to start (or sputter).
Spray some flamable liquid through the throttle, like carburator cleaner, and crank it. You should have tried this before replafe fuel pump.
Scan it for a code. I have a 2001 civic and the only engine part I had to replace have been the TDC sensor, but as you have spark that should be good.

Well the fuel pump didn't hum when I got it, so I knew it was shot. It makes a humming for a couple seconds now when you turn the key. I've sprayed starting fluid in the air box, but I need to take it off and go directly in the throttle. Haven't gotten a sputter out of it yet. I hooked up my code scanner and it showed 0 codes.
