OMNI paint VS PPG paint
anyone here who painted or had their car painted ever used Omni? If so, what's your thoughts and comments on Omni paint? I'm having my hatch painted by a good friend and he's going to use Omni instead of ppg. He said you can't tell the difference and its cheaper then ppg. Also said it's made by dupont. Oh and no, this is not a product of Omni that sells car parts.

Omni is made by PPG. I've sprayed Omni MC161 clear and it has a really nice gloss to it. Never sprayed their bases tho. Omni is a really good product for the price.

yeah, my friend's going to use omni for the base and the clear. Before I chose my color and before he paints my hatch, I want to know the quality after the paint between omni and regular ppg.

well, I know my color isn't going to be black, so I'm okay. And Honda RR, how long ago did you paint your car? Can you tell the difference if you had your car next to another car w/ the same paint but instead of omni, they used ppg?

Just something to think about, alot of how a paint job turns out is in the prep and the skill of the painter. You could have the most expensive, top of the line paint, but if you dont prep right or cant spray for ****, then it will turn out like ****. Ya get me, go with the OMNI just take care in the prep department.

i agree with doing prep correct also omni will streak if not sprayed correct also if you use a high metallic base give extra time for flash in between coats putting it on to quick will trap solvents and cause it to look " cloudy " I use omni all the time for my complete paint jobs in my shop.

Streaking (tiger stripes) arent caused by the type of paint you use. What causes it is improper overlaping. It doesnt matter if you using dupont, sherwinn william etc. if you dont spray correctly it will stripe. Anyways, There is nothing wrong with OMNI. OMNI is made by PPG but isnt mixed with the same materials. If this was the case than it wouldnt be as cheap as it is. It is mixed with materials that dont take as long make. If your spraying with OMNI it can look just as good with high dollar paint. And like everyone else said prepping is the most important step of a paintjob.

Re: OMNI paint VS PPG paint (methos713)
If your friend said Omni is made by Dupont, he might be confused or he doesnt know what hes talking about. Omni is PPGs lower line. Omni, is alright, but when I paint stuff I usually buy higher end products. There is a difference, easier application, better durability, etc. I dont think the price varies that much. Maybe a hundred dollars or two. Go for the better stuff, unless youre really on a budget.

nice turnout on the white hatch. I'm going to stick with Omni...my friend might of mistaken it, but either way...if its made by ppg, its cool with me. Thanks guys.

Omni is not bad for the money. Painters from autobody101.com love the mc161 clear and it's quite worth it for the money. Omni base however is quite thinner and might require more coats for even coverage than ppg. Even if the omni base requires 5 coats and ppg only takes 3 coats, omni is cheaper.

Re: OMNI paint VS PPG paint (VTEC_Club)
i never use it but why bother with a lower end product tho?
i only use ppg' premium paint(clear, base and the whole nine yard), the spraying is the easy part but getting the part off and prepping for the spray takes alot of time, if you are spending the same amount of time preparing it, i wouldn't want to use a lower grade paint.
how much is the omni compare to ppg anyway?
