94-97 DIY Black Housing Accord Headlights/ How to clean them ??
Anyone know how to paint your 1994-1997 Accord Headlight Housing Black (JDM) or just how to take them apart and clean them ?? I have some water marks on the inside of my headlight I need to get rid of.

yes, you bake them in the oven to get them apart. i believe the number is 5 minutes at a time at 250 degrees, but i could be wrong so someone please correct me if thats too hot or long.

Just stick em in the oven to melt the glue. I've heard several ways to do it, like 25 mins at 200, 10 mins at 250, 2-3 mins at 350, I guess they all would work. I also heard putting it on a wet towel before putting it in the oven will help prevent any damage. After you pry it apart and finish cleaning them, squeeze it back together, stick it back in the oven, then take it out and clamp it for 30 mins.

krylon "OEM black" automotive paint is what i would use, but the basic flat or satin black will do the trick

Might be off topic but:
Would you think that the black taillights are ricey? I think they look sick but if this whole forum thinks they are ricey let me know before i do it
My car's paint is black so i think itll go great. Opinions?

Oh by the way, if you do decide to paint them, I suggest buying some black housing corner lights too. The black housing headlights looks REALLY weird with the stock corners.

Re: (pyrojeff)
I have a question is it really difficult to bake and spray paint the headlights? Those look sexy as hell. I prefer DIY things. Could anyone give me a somewhat detailed on "how-to" DIY black housing headlights on the 5th gens. Thanks

Re: (pyrojeff)
did you have to mask anything off? or can you just pull that outer housing off and paint it then put it back. i really dont have to mask anything because 1) i really suck as masking stuff off, and 2) im scared of pulling masking tape off and taking chrome flaking off with it.

go to post #9 by VXCL, he does a great job describing the steps. keep in mind, this is for a CL, but its probably the same process for your accord headlights.

Thats not really want i was looking to do (looks sweet though)
I meant the COVER of the taillight. So to the naked eye the glass looks black but shines red when brake is pressed (obviously a red bulb)
Black taillight coverage ricey?

Yes, i masked off all of the reflective parts, and painted all the shiny chrome black. I just used painter's tape (its blue), it stays on tight and unpeels easily. It's hard to mask off the corners of the reflective part, so you just have to tear off little pieces of tape to fit in there.
Someone asked about it affecting the visibility at night. You don't paint over the reflective part, so it shines just as bright as stock. Get some Silverstar bulbs in there and you'll be pleasantly surprised. It looks damn sexy.

I did my taillights too.

I didn't tint the outside of the lens, just painted the housings on the inside black. You could get similar results by buying tint spray paint online. Krylon and Testors are good brands.

that would be like those GTO blackouts from back in the 90s...i suppose it would look alright on a black car, but it would really hurt your light output so i would advise against it

Just take your time, better to take too long than not long enough and have the lights fog up . Purchase some extra clear silicon and reuse the old stuff already on the headlights .
I plan on doing my 4th gens come thanksgiving .
