the only bike for me is a 1972 Yamaha X2 650. Black with a fairing and custom seat. I extricated one from a friend's garage after sitting 30 years. I will have one again.
and it isn't just about the appearance. It's a build in the shakedown phase while I touch up the subsurface red and hit the performance. Then a coat of professional paint. What will it be...?

To run as good as it looks under the hood. The color is done, just needs a durable finish. If any kind del sol owners would like to share pictures of what they've got I can compare all the variety of currently running del sols. Especially flat black, murdered out, suped up street rods/racers. No pressure.
Did you really ask the guy with a primered car why he wants pictures of other cars? I think I'll see what others have done while I can.

I also respect your involvement and opinion on many topics BUT, I think you are not giving him any slack on the rat rod concept. I am an old rodder and have built many a car. The rat rod look is not a year/genre specific build. It is a simple function over appearance tradeoff that leaves a builder open to multiple uses and innovation over time.
Many builders enjoy their cars in a nearly unfinished state and derive great joy from being the counter culture to the otherwise fad driven compulsion mods. Personally, I believe the rat rod look started with poor people determined to have a place in "the scene".

Dont think there is any rules on what he post's in HIS appearance thread that doesn't have to do with a delsol. People do it all the time, ask for pictures, advice, motivation, Info. We all know its posted in here somewhere but its better to discuss in here with the people that see his car and his build so far rather than make a new thread in a different section for people to hate on it and say do your research or use google. Sorry, but his "little joke" was a direct insult. I really couldn't care less what you think. I hold transparency as a high standard when referring to what I do. I don't boldly mislead others into thinking I have something that I don't. And, in fairness, this isn't a rat rod car. Plain and simple.

Well, like you, he doesn't really pay to be here. So, as soon as he puts his photos up and gives his two cents on his own car, he pretty much opens Pandora's box when it comes to responses. Whether or not a user has tough skin, is really up to the person. But, I do not see why any site should pander to those who can't handle negative criticism.
I find it far more "sad" to see user's focusing entirely on the negative, instead of using the criticisms to drive their ambitions and make the best of what they have, instead of claiming to have something they don't.

You aren't doing anything different, as from the norm. Everyone has their own methods of customizing a car to their liking. Myself, I'm kinda liking all the rock chips on my front end from the winter. A bit of faded paint with fresh. Imperfect so to say. But to others they see it as a nice car for it's age. It gets compliments as well.
Should have just cleared over the original faded paint. Would look alot better than the black primer. Better off taking reducer to that horrid uneven primer, and stop wiping when you see red.
