A beater you can be proud of
How much did I say I've put into it?
Big surprise. The motor looks nicer than the outside! How often does THAT happen?
And people wonder why I won't slam it....they don't drive where I dare
Fleshing out graphics as complicated as the paint scheme
Ready for a cross country race!
[I]When you see this in your rear view you should: A. Speed up. B. GET OUT OF THE WAY! C. Be more happy with what you got ...or. D. Get inspired

Re: 1997 rat sport del sol
Honestly, it just looks like a car without any form of direction. Just a random arrangement of things that show very little time or effort put into them. And I wouldn't give your car the time of day for a second glance in my rear view mirror, if I saw it approaching.
Now, that's not to say that there isn't potential within. But, as it stands, it's more depressing then anything.

The only thing more depressing is my bank account. And I don't see your car. It must be that blur I shot passed entering the highway.
This car is 4 things...1. running great, 2. currently registered, 3. totally paid off and 4.any reply to this in the form of a list to get your cheekiness on will be the sure sign of a loser who is making payments on someone else's highly painted work. If you're going to search for faults at least upload a pic of your basis for comparison. I can make this car look any way I want. I really like the primer and no emblems. I don't stress about scratches, just let it get dirty.

Thanks! That's more like it. Must be nice to have a budget
You like red, I take it
And for the record, I'm a bizarre human with little money to spend on kustomizing. You gotta make do and take your compliments in person. The car gets them all the time, believe it or not. For a **** beater with 360,000 miles it's incredibly fun.

That's because IMO, the DelSol is becoming a rare car to see in urban settings. They are very fun cars with just the right size everything. They are very comfortable on long trips and get 37 mpg hwy.
I am an older street racer from the 80s on the east coast (Philla), and I rat rodded my cars for the same reasons. My interiors were immaculate doe! Still are.

Hallelujah! Another believer. Anyone wanting to bash my lack of color scheme or aftermarket body parts can look at the next picture. It is one of a multitude of other driver's rides that are both Del Sol and flat black. I'm an authority like anybody else. I just Googled it!

First flat black pic looked ok because it was done "right", not just rattle canned and ghetto looking like yours. But hey keep it up, it's your car and you like it that's all that matters.

I'm just playing around until I finish the body work and scrape up the cash and get it wrapped. It'll be a wrap that looks the same as the primer anyway but it's not like I'm taking it to auction. Ever

Re: 1997 rat sport del sol
I guess I'd choose a corvette to replace it, then spray primer all over it. I'm not into what anyone else already has. Another 350Z....yawn. I had the first Elantra in town toying with new Mustangs and Camaros on the highway but lame people can afford those. Now hyundais are everywhere. For all the money I'd get a complete GTO or a simple Ferrari. But hey, I can only afford a cool **** beater I can dribble money into slowly. Its not going anywhere and I ain't no senator's son. The goal is to have a seat, 4 wheels and a steering wheel to go with that engine and not much else...whatever it takes to keep the rain off

Re: 1997 rat sport del sol
I had to chuck up a MOMO hub and machine it down and add new tapped holes to fit in the truck proper, but I definitely think it was worth the effort.
How exactly is replacing a worn out tan pleather steering wheel with a performance-derived Italian wheel considered "ricing out"? You're a bit confused on terminology, it seems. I'm sorry I actually put quality products into my truck?! Honestly, I don't even know where to go with this one. Your post just boggles the mind.

I have seen plenty of steering wheel swap threads for Super Duty's and Excursions. I prefer the OEM style or add a different OEM but the Nardi just seems out of place.

Re: 1997 rat sport del sol
Honestly speaking, I really don't care what "you prefer" since you don't own/drive/maintain/modify the truck. I hate the melted whale ******* that comes from the factory, and the more current models use a different spline count, so the install would require more components then going aftermarket. Grant steering wheels always looked like cheap garbage (maybe because you're only paying $25), and I saw no reason to buy anything else then what I have in my Civic since I like how it feels.
For the record, "out of place" and "rice" do not have the same meaning.

Re: 1997 rat sport del sol
Would not recommend a Grant wheel. At this point i believe we are at a agree to disagree point and should probably stop shitting up this build thread. For what its worth I am all over FTE and there is tons of solid info there. Can almost compare it to H-T in a sense.

to the OP: You talk about funds and money and lack there of but you don't need a lot of money to make a clean nice car, remember less is more. Plus, get a job or a better one at that to fix your "funds issue." Your car has a lot of potential but this isn't a case of a lack of funds, its clearly a result of poor taste. As the car sits now its a joke in every aspect, but can be resurrected into something you can enjoy and be proud of...... please stfu with your bizarre respones, you sound like a straight up weirdo....

I saw this guy with a *****'s pick up covered in rust. Under the hood was a clean, chromed engine with a blower. The moral of this story is you don't want to do that with a del sol. If everyone did it I wouldn't want mine.
There's a reason I kept the innards and the door jambs red. Because the factory red all over is sissy looking and leaving the firewall of any other factory color, any color at all really wouldn't look as raw and living. What hypocritics like in their spare time is probably lame to me. I am a spfx monster make-up artist in my spare time. You never seen anyone weirder than you before?
All my gear fit in the trunk last season
Anyway...let's see some more flat black del sol out there

9 years of hard work and pinching pennies to afford the mods/bodywork/paint color I truly want. I make no payments on this car, I own it and have since day 1. Try taking some pride in what you drive, as it sits right now, this is an example of someone who has settled and has no patience to save.
You need to change your attitude as well man, or your stay here will not be pleasant one.
