Default rear main seal leak after t-belt and power steering pump repair !!!

I have a 2005 Honda accord V6. I recently had my timing belt changed at 103K along with the tenssioner belt etc, as dealership recommended. The same day that they did the work on t-belt, they also changed some o-rings for the power steering pump as it was noisy due to some air in the lines.

2 weeks after changing the timing belt, I see oil leak. Dealership says that it comes from back main seal of the engine. Is that possible that the dealership damaged it when changing the timing belt so that I can use their warranty. It didnt have any oil leak at the time they changed the timing belt.

Thank you

Completely unrelated to the work that was performed. The rear main seal sits around the crankshaft on the flywheel end. The transmission will need to be removed for the seal to be replaced.

Its an older car with low mileage so its very highly that the seal is worn out from age. Where is it leaking from? In between the transmission and the engine or just on the side?
Or do you mean the front crankshaft seal?

I would recommend checking the PCV valve and hose, it could be that the engine is building pressure inside and pushing out the weakest point now that the front of the engine has been sealed.

You could check your local auto supply store and try one of the seal softeners, it's worth the few bucks if it works, if it doesn't work make sure you buy a OEM seal instead of a low priced look alike.

I'm having issues with one of those seals now on my miata, when I changed the clutch I picked up an aftermarket seal, but after 2K miles now it is leaking.

Live and learn.

Check to make sure they didn't overfill the crank case.

Where, exactly is the oil leak coming from? You have to find the source of the leak, which can be far away from where it actually drips. If the leak is coming from the passenger side of the engine (where the drive belt is), at the bottom of the plastic timing belt covers, then you could say the timing belt job was involved. If the leak is coming from where the engine bolts to the transmission (rear seal), the leak is unrelated to the timing belt replacement.

The power steering horse was replaced recently due to a recall by Honda. After a week oil started leaking and was advised that it is the main seal that has gone bad. Car is a 2005 accord exv6 with 70K miles and I was surprised. Any relationship to the horse replacement?

Not related unless the dealership diagnosed it wrong

No relationship to the hose or horse replacement.
