Icon6 Need Help!! Curtain Airbags deployed

Hi Guys,
I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestion on this.

2008 Accord EX-L V-6 no Navi. US Built

I had a moderate side impact on the passenger side that resulted on deploying the side curtain airbags only on the passenger side. no other airbags deployed and had nobody with me at the time. I already had the doors replaced and got the panel fixed but didnt fix the airbags coz I didnt have money. now I want to fix the airbags by myself and have few questions?

1- do you recommend buying used curtain airbags?

2- based on my research I think I need to replace the sensor and the module and airbags, but do I need to replace OPDS module too even I had no passenger and the seat built assembly is working fine and didnt deploy.

3- do I need to go to the dealer to reset any SRS fault errors after installation?

4- how to start, after disconnecting battery, change what first?

After a collision where a side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the items for the side(s) that deployed:

SRS unit
Deployed side curtain airbag(s)
Front seat belt(s)
Side impact sensor(s) (first)
Side impact sensor(s) (second)
Rear safing sensor
Roof trim
A-pillar trim
B-pillar upper trim
C-pillar trim
Front grab handle
Rear grab handle (4-door)
All related trim clips
Sunvisor

that is the info straight from the repair manual

Hi, just a few personal thoughts on the subject, hopefully some are correct and may be of use to you.

Second hand airbags can be very tricky, there isn't supposed to be a safe way to test them, however the srs ecu looks for a resistance of 2 ohms when it is checking the system at startup, make of that what you will, but i'm saying there is no safe way to test them.

People are told to never test airbags as they may deploy, bear this in mind.

If you were fortunate and they worked, theoretically they should be as good as any others of that age, as yours obviously worked, a fair chance maybe, but it would always be considered to be best to buy new.

There is ways of having the srs unit reprogrammed to delete the crash data, I do not know of anyone who does this but i'm sure google could turn up something.

If you were going the route of replacement srs module, I would check whether it needs programming with hds at a dealer.

Probably not of much use, but I thought i'd try and get the ball rolling, i'm sure many will want to correct me!

Thanks for the answers, here what I have so far:
1- I bought used curtain airbags for $200 from same car and model. new ones are $560
2- bought new srs module from honda dealer for $210
3- bought new side sensor for $25

thats all the parts I have, I took off the headliner and it was a mess but successfully removed it, I dont think I need to buy any other parts since that would cost a fortune and I dont want it to be perfect coz it wont.

I have a side airbag off light on the dash!! if I installed the airbags and sensor and the module, will the srs light goes off? and what about side airbag off light that will stay on or off. mostly it will need to be re-calibrated but can I do installation first then go to dealer to clear codes only.

note: seat belt is working fine no faults and when I have some one sitting on the seat without putting the seat belt, it will beep like a warning which mean weight sensor is working. Also, is there any chance that OPDS system will need to be replaced or just reprogrammed.

One last question! If I installed the airbags and sensor and module, and there was another bad part, lets say second side sensor will this affect the new module I installed? would it create a crash fault errors or something?

should I install airbag and sensor first then go to dealer and scan it, then if only SRS module need to be replaced then just replace it and go back to dealer to clear codes if any still there. Im saying is it ok to install the airbag and the sensor while the old bad module is still connected and should I disconnect the battery to do this or its needed? Im confusing myself here. what you guys think?

As some one noted earlier, there are companies that can erase the crash data and reprogram the module. Google it. Also I would install the parts you have now and get the codes scanned to see what comes up(A dealership is not necessary for this, any competent repair shop can scan SRS codes for you.)

Successfully did the installation yesterday and below is the summary of all work :

2008 Accord 4DR EX-L V6 no navigation, US Built.
side impact on the passenger side right in the middle between the two doors, only me in the car at the time, passenger side roof airbag only deployed. srs light came on and side airbags off sign came on also on the dash

Parts I used :
1- used curtain airbags for $200
2- new srs module from dealer, I recommend buying new one.
3- new side sensor impact number 1, if you have damage in the side more toward the back of the car I recommend changing the side sensor number 2, both are same part.

- Disconnected the battery cables, both. waited for 10 minute before start any work just to be in the safe side.

- installed side airbags, side impact sensor 1 ( located under seat belt components ) I didnt hook up the socket yet.

- disconnect old srs module, then connect all sockets ( airbag and sensor ) then install the new module and connect the module sockets.

- put the headliner back and put all the pieces together which was very frustrating but I took my time to make sure it will be same as before, took like an hour to do that.

- connect the battery cable back, ohh and I forgot to dis arm the anti-theft and it was a big mess when I connected the battery. I have to reset the anti theft.

- turn the car on and the srs light and the side airbag off light were still there. wait for 10 minutes and then turn the car back on and the srs light was still there but the side airbag off light is gone. I went home and today morning drove the car to work and the srs light is on, stopped to get coffee and came back to the car and when I turned it on all lights were off, nothing there, no srs or any other lights on. I dont even need to go to the dealer to do anything.
