Maintenance - 96K - Road Trip Question
I posted this in another forum but this is Honda specific so it may better be answered here:
Hey guys I have a service scheduled at Honda for 96KM.
Issue is that I am at about 90K but I am planning on going on a big road trip that will put about 6KM on the car.
Should I do the service before I leave for the road trip or after I return for the road trip?
I assume to be safer I should do it before incase anything major is wrong but wouldn't it make sense to get all this stuff done after a big long trip on the car? Btw, my car is running great, nothing weird I have noticed driving it.
Type 4
Replace engine oil* and filter.
Service front and rear brakes.
Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches with multipurpose grease.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect parking brake adjustments.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS).
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks.
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
Inspect exhaust system.
Inspect fuel lines and connections.
Check all lights.
Inspect the underbody.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace dust and pollen filter (if applicable).
Replace air cleaner element.

Re: Maintenance - 96K - Road Trip Question
Sure. That make sense.
But keep in mind, how much $$$ you can spend before your trip. Your service will cost (I'm guessing) $300. What if they say you need brakes? $300. Flush the radiator. $100. You get my point?
Sure it's nice to know if your brakes are bad to get them fixed. But can it wait? How well do you know your car? If you car is in good running order - based on your opinion, I would wait until you get back.
PS. I edited my response because I assume you mean KM and not K on the clock.

Yeah they are charging $350 for that service. I would rather wait until after the trip because that way the car will have been through this long trip and then I can get new brakes for example if I need them. Idealy I'd like to defer any costs until after.
I just wanted to make sure I'm not nuts for wanting to wait.

Re: Maintenance - 96K - Road Trip Question
I would make sure the brake pads will last the duration of the trip. Also check the drive belt, and hoses to make sure one of them is not weak. If the brake pad wear indicators would happen to start squealing at the first 500km of the trip, you would not have rotors left by the time you got back. Not to mention the squealing would drive you crazy.
