Lost with charging issue after motor swap 2004 accord
Greetings! Hope someone can help me out..
So last week i got a p0340 code... camshaft sensor.. Okay.. i test the terminal... All data says.. replace the sensor.. start it up and cling cling cling cling.... Inspected the chain... had slack..
Found a motor with 68k on it.. and dropped it in with the sensors on it, and the small main harness attached.
Installed, fired it up ran MINT... CEL light is still onbecause my Evap Canister is bad (which i knew)... On my way to honda to clear the codes and everything starts failing.. Charging system wasn't working...
No big deal, went back home broke out the multi-meter, checked the battery with a load tester.. 11.4 volts outta the alternator, and the battery is the same.. I say.. okay, Perhaps the alternator just happened to go aswell.. Upon changing the alternator i noticed there was a bit of frayed wire near the coilpack cover.. so i remove the sub harness, and install my factory one..
Where i had no problems..
So Now..
New Engine
New Alternator
Sensors that came on the block..
All factory wiring from vehicle.
Car starts up perfect, Idles fine (with a charged battery)
However.. When running i get the Camshaft sensor code still (could be bad to do frayed wiring)
And the charging system is STILL not putting out!!!
I have no idea what to check... 2 alternators, neither putting out power at the "power" bolt... could i just have two bad ones?
I did not test the alternator without the harness attached.. I'm curious if i should get another alternator, assemble it with the belt.. and start it without any connections to test if the alternator is putting out???
Any suggestions would be greatly appricated i have to get to work on monday!!! And if anyone needs k24 parts.. the valves have a few knicks, but the compression test came back good * no scoring on the bottom end*

i got the one on the front cover, and the one on the tranny.. unplugged the alternator completely and ran a multimeter, and got 2 volts, just bought a new one today.. gonna test it with JUST the belt... should put out more than 2 without the main power or harness connector right?

Does the battery light illuminate while the engine is on? Are both battery cable ends secure? Is the negative cable from the battery properly grounded? Are fuses 18 and 21 in the underdash fuse box good? Did you paint the engine or alternator bracket? Report back.

There is no battery light on an 04... i'll double check the fuses, terminals are mint.. and car is clean without mod's... Fathers vehicle

Check the wire that comes from the engine harness. Its the 12 volt hot wire that screws on your fuse box under the hood.If thats loose,It wont get a good charge.Mine came loose twice.

There is a battery light on an 04. Good Idea about the teminal T101 at the fuse box Darrell. The charging system indicator(battery light) should come on when you cycle the ignition key to on and then go out. I'll bet fuse 18 is blown.

You can always take the alternator into a parts store where they will test if for free... could it be possible that you bought two new "bad" ones, yes it's possible although highly unlikely... I actually had it happen on another car years ago and was told that it happens on rare occasions that some parts may be from a bad batch.
I'd still say mainly a strap somewhere is missing or not well connected from what you said that you put in a new engine.

In a Junkyard near you.

Having the alternator unplugged won't allow it to charge. The ECU controls the alternator output.
