K24 Timing chain, Coil pack or what the huh? Thumping sound?
Solution to this: Get Another Swap!
So I've done a timing chain before.
My check list:
Spark on all coil (i think they're weak)
New spark plugs
Has compression on all cylinder
I can smell fuel on spark plugs
And I did tdc and right on black point to the chain mark (left cam gear on point, right also and the crank black mark)
Do you guys think a weak coil won't turn over the engine? I can see spark on them tho.
Confuse like crazy. Usually after timing chain it turn on right away. Maybe bent valve? compression are good.
Previous Owner says he heard thumping sound

I'm confused as to what the issue is....
What work was recently done to the car - did the car run after that work.
What is the car doing now - starter spins the engine but it doesn't run?
Are there any stored codes in the PCM?

First before all things, congrats on your new born.
The battery died, so the code got reset when the new battery installed.
So far that's about it, did the timing chain at least 5 times, check for sparks & fuel, that's about it. The car is just sitting at the yard. lol.
When the key turns all I can hear sounds like timing chain, but that wasn't it ( I've successfully changes 10 of k20 timing chain, I am sure I did it right, but since is not on maybe I didn't do it correctly, then again the timing chain might not be the problem?)
Have anyone experience thumping sound before their k20 died? or maybe the previous owner mimic the sound incorrectly. Possibly knocking. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't thumping sound usually the symptoms of coil pack?
He said he drove it home from work (running, but has the thumping sound) then the following morning it wouldn't start.

First, my youngest child is over 20 years old. Just like the song "Cats in the cradle".
Recheck the work and be sure the grounds are tight....I think the main ground is on the "injector base" between the head and the intake runners.
What were the compression numbers?

Ok, just missed your terminology. Anyways it was a bent valve.
