Default honda accord P2610 code

I have a 2005 Honda Accord V-6 and the check engine light popped on. I took it to my mechanic and the error code P2610 seems to be the culprit. He did not know much about the P2610 error. After he called Honda they said it was some type of computer error and I would need to take it to the dealer for a complete hook up to the Honda Computer to figure out what the deal is. Can anyone give me any type of info on this code?

thanks...

DTC P2610: ECM/PCM Internal Power Off Timer Performance Problem

Normally, you should reset the ECM and drive it to see if the problem comes back. If it does, you can bring it to the Honda dealer.

They would normally check for temporary DTCs or DTCs with the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS). If it shows P2610 then they update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM/PCM, then they replace the original ECM/PCM.

If there is no DTC, it is consider an intermittent failure, and that the system is OK at this time.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I had my mechanic reset the code and then the check engine light did come back on a couple days later (today) I will call the dealership and get an appointment. Can I cause any harm by continuing to drive the car?

thanks again.

If the Check Engine Light is not blinking and is solid, you probably will be okay to drive. Usually, Hondas go into a fail-safe or limp mode for certain codes. As long the the CEL is not blinking, I still would reset the ECM by disconnecting the negative battery cable and reconnect for now. Just have your radio code available afterward to enter.

FWIW, if the PCM does turn out to be faulty and your car has fewer than 80,000 miles, it should be covered under the 8-year/80,000-mile federal emissions equipment warranty. That's only in the case of a bad PCM, though.

Hi. I have a 2009 Accord 2.0 petrol (CW1) with this same problem. Mechanic did tell me that the ECM/PCM is faulty and it wont go under warranty.. New costs 1300euros+work.. Now i have question if i had used ECM/PCM from wrecked car and if i install it to my car, do i need to clone the old one to the new or just plug it in or what? I heard that if you clone it you need to have correct software because of ECM is coded.

and sorry about my bad english. Hopefully you did understand my point.

The keys are what need to be programed. The original PCM and the keys are coded to "know each other". So if you get a new PCM or key the two have to be "coded" so they know each other.......So if you get a "bone yard" PCM, it will need to be programed to "know" the chip in the current key.
