Failed emissions inspection and service engine light question
accord 2004, v6 ex,
I recently took my car for an inspection. It passed the safety inspection but failed the emissions inspections. The reason was that oxygen, catalytic, evaporation and EGS systems were not ready. I was told by the mechanic to drive the car for a few days in city and highway conditions and come back. After I came back the only thing that was ready was the EGS system. The oxygen, catalytic and evaporation systems were still not ready. My service engine light is not on, it goes off without blinking after I turn the ignition into the position "II". Also, I took the car to autozone and they checked the computer with their OBD reader and there were no codes. What can be happenning? Should I keep driving it and try again? Or should I just take it to the dealer?
Also, after you turn the ignition to position II, how long does the service engine light need to stay on?

Re: Failed emissions inspection and service engine light question
check all ur fuses..those r ur Readiness Monitors that must be complete for you to pass emissions..each time ur ecu or battery is disconnected, it will erase all the monitors back to INCOMPLETE and you have to set them to get them back to complete..after you have checked the fuses try doing this drive cycle, it SHOULD set most if not all of them
1. start the car up COLD and let it IDLE until warm (fan kicks on 1x)
2. drive the car on the freeway at steady speeds of 25-60mph for at least 6 miles (i like to do at least 30-40miles round trip)
3. that should of set most if not all the monitor by now
the EVAP monitor is the longer and harder one to get to set..it usually takes at least 2-3 drive cycles b4 it will set to Complete.
good luck
