Default DIY brakes on 2006 Accord?

Is there a DIY on how to do the brakes on a 2006 Accord V6?

I am not new to cars by any means, just curious if it's a straight forward job. I have to change the rotors/pads all around for my mom.

Thanks in advance.

There is a paste that needs to be applied between the shims and the pad backing. If the new pads don't come with shims, use the old ones. Do you know that you have to turn the rear caliper piston, then line it up with the notch on the rear pad, when you push it back in? The screws holding the rotors on can be difficult to remove, without an impact driver. There are a few things that may be different from other cars you've worked on, so I would suggest a repair manual (for this and future maintenance/repairs you may want to do on this car). You could probably find a how-to on the internet somewhere, but there's no telling how accurate, or how detailed it will be. Good luck.

I've got a question about brake repairs on a 2003 2dr coupe v6 auto. I have front disks that are larger than the rears. Is it possible to replace the rears with the same size as the front... or even use like the larger brembo ones all the way around?

no you can up grade the rear ones with the brembo kit but you can not use the front ones because some accords comes with brake pads and drums

go with brembo blanks rotors. they are cheap and good enough for daily driving and better than oem.

also, blkflsh, wut do you mean by "rotating the piston so dat it lines up with the rear pad?" i'm sure all you need to do it twist the piston all the way in, but you dont' need to line up anything

There is a little tab on the pad backing. You turn the piston in clockwise, then turn it back just enough so that the cutout in the piston will line up with the tab. It shows this in the helm manual, but I'm too lazy to scan it right now.

If you wanted to do some major custom work, yes it's possible, but its not practical at all. Especially considering that most of your braking is done on the front, there's no reason at all you need vented rotors (like the ones you have for your front brake rotors) and larger pads.

If you don't line up the slot correctly to where you can slide the tab on the back of inner brake pad in the slot, the caliper is going to stick out. What I do is turn the piston clockwise untill its flush with the piston housing in the caliper, and then I turn it enough to where the slot is face towards the hole on the clip on the back of the caliper. Should slide it fine.

Another tip to make life easier is there's I believe a 10mm (or 12mm) bolt on a bracket that helps keep the brake line from dangling, remove that bolt, and you wont struggle to remove the brake caliper from the caliper bracket.
