dealer says $795 to activate alarm on a certified crosstour? (is it total bs?)
hello everyone,
ill try to make this as short as possible, my girlfriend just purchased a 2011 certified crosstour, the dealer told her that it would be $795 for the alarm, i asked doesn't the alarm come standered with the remote, they say the remote is only keyless entry (sounds like total BS) and that the alarm is already on the car but unless we pay $795 it will be deactivated. this sounded fishy (and way overpriced) to me so i told my GF to decline it
now here is my question, is it true that they would disable the alarm? or is it just a complete bs to try to get my GF to pay extra money? and if they do disable the alram is it easy to reaactivate by an outside mechanic with an advance snap-on tool?

ask them if you could have a short period with the car with the alarm functioning before making up your mind.
once out of the dealership, never return. UNLESS, it's part of the onstar or whatever network.
what type alarm is it? audible only or remote paging etc?

That's one of those BS device that the dealership installed to make money. It's not a real alarm by most common definition.
By them adding this device, they actually make the car easier for the bad guys to start it. The OEM wires has been cut and rewired, and it's "right there." How convenient.
You should decline it. If you want a real alarm, go to a good stereo shop or box store like Best Buy. Lot's of much better options at 1/2 the price. And they will install a "real" alarm.

after playing more with the car and the remote today, it seems to me that all they did is disable the factory alarm that come with the car, the panic button on the remote dosent do anything now.
this really pisses me off as this is supposed to be a standard feature with the car, im worndering if i can take the car to another dealer and have them fix that since the car is still under bumper to bumper warranty and this is a standard feature...

I know "this device" is/was on my Odyssey. Honestly, I don't think I tried the panic button. Will try when I get home.
Yes, I wish dealer will not mess with it, to begin with. And instead, they install it on ALL their inventory cars.
Think about this...isn't it a waste of $$$ for the dealership? Well...that's how much that thing is really worth (almost nothing).
You can try to have another dealership fix it. They may or may not cause maybe they sell it too. I don't think it's consider a warranty item, but maybe they will do it out of goodwill.

Take it to another dealer. It is a standard feature on the CT. My '11 CT had it from the factory. Alarm works, panic buttons triggers alarm, opening a door triggers alarm, etc. I would be more curious how they deactivated the alarm in the first place.

Any updates on this? I'm curious to see how they can sell a "certified" vehicle with factory parts not working.
