2008 Accord VCM
I am a new Honda owner. We just purchased a 2008 Accord EX-L with 70,xxx miles on it. It is a Honda certified used car. I have some concerns about the transmission or VCM. It appears the car jerks and shutters when the VCM goes to 4cyl and back to 6. Also it downshifts hard when coming to a stop. Just curious if they are supposed to act like this. I have an appointment at the dealer for Friday but just wanted as much information about this as I could get. Thanks in advance.

This is "normal." Combination of the AT and VCM = double whammy. If you are a life long Honda owner, this is normal. If you are coming from a Toyota, than this feels strange. Honda auto trans are the only one that is not using a planetary gear system.
I don't know the "certified" history of the car, do you? Was the ATF changed? If so, when?
Going from OEM Z1 to DW1, I do feel a major bit of difference when the ATF was new, and now minor difference. Most of all, that famous Honda AT "click" is almost not noticeable.
If the dealer tell you nothing is wrong, then maybe nothing is wrong. However, I would do a drain & fill with new DW1. I only done it once (at ~30K) so far. Many Honda owners do D & F 3X.
If you need DIY steps or instructions, search this forum or post up a new question.
The dealer will only do drain & fill 1X and charge you like $100. This is where one should DIY.

I can't reacll off the top of my head, but how often does Honda recommend ATF replacement? Was it 60K or 90K?
We would think Honda knows best because it's their car. Most owners take a more proactive approach, especially toward the AT on V6, which does have a history of issues that pop up when the car gets old.
With that said, the Gen 8 Accord V6 did receive the updated 4 shaft version of the same AT (as also used on Odyssey and other big Hondas). So one would hope there were some improvements. That does not mean Honda ATs will be bulletproof, just better we hope.

I actually got my way out of atf for $100 and paid $40. Unfortunately they used damn z1 again and didn't think they would. I have dw1 just waiting a bit. I really really hate the jerking from vcm + auto. It felt better when I first bought the car I think.
