Honda Accord 2005
My daughter wrecked my car in front end. Thank God I had full coverage! Was taken to repair shop. They called after 3 weeks of having it and said it's ready. When I picked it up.and drove it..the check engine light is on and the car bogs down when I push gas pedal. Took it back after 20 minutes of getting it, and they put it on machine and said it was O2 SENSOR. They are hesitant to fix it now even though the bill has been paid in full. They even did another test drive and said" it's not bogging too bad". Although it didn't do it at all before the wreck.. Does this sound like a cause for the bogging? He also said that he had to call the insurance company to see if they would pay for the 02 sensor. I gave them the 5400 insurance check along with my 250 deductible when I picked it up. I am one very unpleased person right now.

if it hit hard enough to cave in the front then yes, it absolutely could have physically impacted the upstream sensor, and really, the jolt could have damaged them without HITTING them. Yes this could cause the bogging issue.

The adjuster called and said the body shop told him it was the back O2 sensor and that was not caused by the wreck. So the will not pay.I was in tears when he told me this. I can't drive the car because it bogs so much when I press the gas pedal. I took it back to the body shop and told them I thought this was 2 separate problems and the owner finally drove it. He came back in and apologized to me. He ordered a throttle position sensor and said the check engine light had nothing to do with it. I hope he can fix my car right, this time. But..I have got to pay for the part now..even though it was supposed to be covered too.

Almost any generic scanner you plug into obd2 will point to an oxygen sensor when the problem is really
a too lean/rich condition.I'm actually surprised that the adjuster didn't total the car,if it required $5400 in repairs.Take the car to a Honda dealer and find out what is really wrong. Most body shops just do cosmetic repairs and have no real knowledge of mechanical repairs. With that much damage it is possible that the exhaust pipe is crimped, preventing gases from escaping the engine. If the dealer ties the problem to the accident then the adjuster will have to bite the bullet and pay up.

Agree, body shops and auto parts guys usually have no idea.

How long was the vehicle running after the wreck? The wreck probably caused a rick/lean condition, which caused damage to the sensor/catalytic convertor.

They body shop had to take it to the Honda dealership because they couldn't get the seat belt light to go off. The Honda place kept it from a Thursday to the next Tuesday. But Monday was Memorial day. As soon as the body shop got it back..they called me to pick it up. And when I took it back, after driving it for about 20 minutes, feeling the bogging, they told me to take it home while they checked with the adjuster about the 02 sensor. The car has been driven about 2 hours total, since I have had it back.
As for the adjuster totaling it... He ask me did I want it fixed or totaled. I told him I had rather have it fixed if it could be. But after talking to my brother, he said I should have totaled it because there are so much that could be wrong even after they "fix" it. I called the adjuster back and told him I wanted it totaled out and he told me that it was too much paperwork to total it. And he gave me paperwork saying I would have gotten 7800.00 if totaled and the body shop charged the insurance company a total of 7122.00. The body shop said Honda charged them 1200.00 for fixing the seat belt light.
So, I am just wanting it fixed so it can be driven. My 18 year old daughter drives this car and I won't let her until I feel like it's a safe car for her to be in.
I called the body shop yesterday to check on the throttle position sensor and it still hasn't arrived. I told her I would come back Monday to get them to install it, after she swore it would be there by then.
I have never dealt with any of this before and hope I never do again. It has been a nightmare! It seems everyone has taken advantage of me in EVERY way they can.

Sherry,at this point your adjuster has committed to repair the car, even if it costs more than the car is worth. It's either that or he can pay the replacement value and take the car.The part they can't seem to find should be readily available at any Honda dealer or parts house. If they install the new part and have the same problem, contact your adjuster and tell him you are leaving the car at the body shop and getting a rental car(at his expense)until yours is safe to drive. This will usually make things move a lot quicker. If he balks on the rental just mention lawyer and small claims court.I can assure you his company wants out of this as cheaply and quickly as possible.

The adjuster told me 3 weeks ago that I didn't have rental car on my insurance. So that's not an option. But I have been thinking about filing a complaint with the insurance commissioner. This has all been unbearable. I am going to wait until Monday to see if the body shop gets the bogging fixed, first. I can live with the check engine light on. The adjuster has already told me he's not paying for that. I am still upset that I have got to pay for the throttle position sensor, when it was damaged from the wreck. I can say I will never use that shop again and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Again, take it to Honda yourself and let them diagnose the problem. At this point you've got a body shop "fishing" for the problem and running up a bill.I don't know what state your in but most lawyers won't charge for an initial consultation and also bear in mind that the adjuster works only in the insurance company's interest and will tell you anything to save them money.I've dealt with several, some arrogant and some very fair.
