2004 Honda Accord V6 EX loss of Power Steering at times
Really needing some help here.
I have a 2004 Honda Accord EX V6, purchased new, now has 210,000 miles. She has been a great car and well taken care of.
Had the power steering flushed in December then received the recall on the pressure hose. Had Honda replace the pressure hose. Once I got the car back from Honda power steering was squealing, brought back to Honda (as no problems previously) they said the power steering pump was going bad and because it happened after the replacement of the pressure hose Honda would pick up 1/2 cost of the pump, total would have still been over $600 installed.
Decided to purchase a reman pump and installed myself, made sure no air in lines. Pump failed pulling out of driveway. Replaced that one with another (same manufacturer). That pump seemed to do better but within a week had issues. When quickly slowing down and turning a corner at the same time power steering was difficult to turn. As soon as rpm's were up power steering seemed to work fine, no problems. This went on for a couple more weeks, spoke with the manager of the parts store who said "maybe manufacturer defect, lets try another manufacturer".
Replace for the 3rd time, now with another manufacturer, the power steering pump. Drove for over 100 miles and now again when rpm's are low it's like there is NO power steering.
There are NO leaks, NO foam in the fluid, NO whining, NO hissing. Just power steering seems to fail at really low rpm's like it's not pumping any fluid at all.
One of the mechanics I spoke with thought maybe the pressure hose that was replaced might be bad, but there is no leaking.
I'm at a loss, any help would be greatly appreciated.
