Default 2008 Accord gloxebox rattle

Hi, I'm having a heck of a time getting my Accord's glovebox to quit rattling. It rattles non stop and has done so from day 1. If I drive with it open there is no rattle. If I push on it there is no rattle. I have had it serviced at 3 different Honda dealers and still nobody can come up with a fix. It rattles when the interior is cooler (below 15 degrees C). As the interior warms up it stops. To hear this all the time really drives you mad. This is the first Honda I have had but the dealer service has put me off so much I am ready to throw in the towel.
Does anyone have any advice?

Try having the glove box damper replaced. The damper may be affected by the colder temperature.

Other than that, you could try adding felt tape to different areas of the glove box or even a little multi-purpose grease.

I was also thinking, "what if the damper had something wrapped around it?" to help insulated it for warmth.

Thank you, I will try that. Is it part #1?

It # 11 (red). The Honda part number is 77531-TA0-A01 and retails for $2.77.

Mine was rattling in cooler temperatures as well and drove me crazy until the car warmed up.I removed the actual metal hook that the glove box mechanism latched against and I bent that hook slightly inward so that when the glove box was shut, it no longer had room to move back and forth and squeak as the glove box contracted and expanded from the cold. The final thing I did was install some very thin felt tape that I got from an automotive store where I lined the front leading lip of the glove box with it. It looks factory and it has not made a peep since then.

To all Honda Accord owners from 2008 through 2012. The rattle in the glove box/IP especially on the right hand side may or may not be the glove box. In my case the glove box was serviced 3 times by the Honda techs at the dealership. No change. The noise seems to be coming from the vent area in the IP on the right hand side.

I have video taped the issue along with volume so that anyone could hear it. Yes, it is absolutely enought to drive one insane along with no one at American Honda and any Honda dealership can seem to fix it. Further to support the statements from other users yes it seems to be thermal in nature. In the mornings or cooler temps it's worse and as the day warms up it's less noisy (didn't go away just less noisy) but late in the evening as night falls the noise reappears. Therefore, it supports the thermal statement which is a problem. Engineering grade level plastics do expand and contract but they shouldn't this much. Most have stabilizers like ABS or Nylon 66 with glass content.

At the moment, American Honda states they are not aware of any issues like this (mine) yet on the internet so many others are complaining. I've contacted American Honda getting the district managers involved. Still no solution and I think they believe the noise or I will just go away. Neither will happen until the issue is resolved and a TSB is issued to help other Honda owners get their vehicles fixed as well. Stay turned Honda owners maybe we can all get their attention to the problem!

Default Accord Rear Deck Cargo area noises

To all Honda Accord owners from 2008 through 2012. The rattle (s) in the trunk can come from two different areas as in my case. The top rattle is the plastic deck cover that you see vibrating against the substrate metal deck and the glass. Most thread users are using foam and felt to reduce it by stuffing them in-between either the glass in lower corners or underneath between the two panels. The factory for 2012 models is placing black felt around the areas on each side so they (Honda) know there is a problem. I noticed looking at some 2012 Accords at local dealership the felt was stick out of the lower corners. It seems to be worse in the morining and late evenings when it's cooler. During the day when its warm the noise is reduced but still there. To date neither my dealership nor American Honda can fix the problem. I've video taped the issues and provided everything possible to help them (Honda) including riding in my car and letting them hear first hand hasn't resolved the issues.

The cracking or popping noise that sounds like rocks hitting the bottom of the car under the trunk and fender wells comes from the torquing and flexing of the metal mating surfaces in the trunk under the deck where the rear seats rests. Here is a link that some are finding as a quik fix but its short-term and will have to be reapplied again in the future.

Regardless, my car has been in 6 times for this issue and they (Honda) and American Honda cannot seem to fix it. My 2011 Accord is still under warranty but they will not replace my car and want to try and repair it regardless of how many times it takes. They do not care if you the customer are aggravated, frustrated, and/or inconvienced in any way. I've been emailing, faxing and speaking American Honda for weeks on end with no results. They don't even want me to trade the vehicle so that they can continue to try and fix it. I'm a consumer lab rat for the moment. Also, they will not buy back your car or help you financially in case you do want to trade. I heard that directly from American Honda. Either way no one at Honda period has a solution to the issue.

Further, American Honda states they are not aware of any issues like this (mine) yet on the internet so many others are complaining. Still no solution and I think they believe the noise or I will just go away. Neither will happen until the issue is resolved and a TSB is issued to help other Honda owners get their vehicles fixed as well. Stay turned Honda owners maybe we can all get their attention to the problem!

There is a TSB on the glove box rattle for the 2008 Honda Accord:
