Default 04 ACCORD V6 BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE.....

Hello all,

I have an 04 V6 Accord. I am having an issue with my brake lights. When I hit the brakes the 4 bulbs in the tail lights along with the one in the rear window do not light up. However the brake light in my spoiler does light up. I cannot imagine that the issue is with the bulbs because I find it hard to believe that they would all die out at once. Also, the bulbs in the tail lights do work normally with my lights on, just not with the brakes. Any suggestions?

First of all if your spoiler and your 3rd brake light work simultanously you do not have a factory wing. Has/ does your instrument cluster show the bulbs to be out? Let me get this right... If you have your parking lights on an you press the brake pedal the taillights go out, and the brake lights don't work?

I'm assuming a 4-door.

There are not 5 brake lamps in an '03-05 Accord. The inner lamps on the trunk lid are parking lamps only and do not illuminate when the brake pedal switch is triggered. Only the outer two lamps and the center high mount lamp should illuminate with the brakes.

In addition, if you have a genuine Honda accessory wing spoiler, the center high mount lamp in the window should be disabled. The LED lamp on the spoiler functionally supercedes it.

You "find it hard to believe" that the bulbs would burn out simultaneously, but you're making a lot of incorrect assumptions rather than just checking the simplest items first. It sounds to me as if you may just have a dead filament in each of the dual-filament 7443 bulbs in the outer taillamps.

Thanks for the input! I should also mention that I DO have a problem with my cruise control as well. I only mention this because I have read in other posts that the problem with my cruise control could be tied to the brake light issue. The problem with the cruise control is that if I try to push the CC button, the button does not stay depressed. However if I were to hold the CC button down with my finger, then the CC works like normal for as long as I am physically holding the button down. Does this information change your opinions at all?

I'd say you have a bad or sticking brake pedal switch if you hadn't mentioned that the brake lamp in the spoiler was working. Bad pedal switches are common on these cars. Are you certain that the spoiler lamp is lighting up while the other lamps stay out whenever you push the pedal?

Well i would suggest you to get you car checked by your car mechanic. As i think there are many problems which are interrelated.

I would check all wiring leading from and to your brake light bulbs, check if all plugs are fastened and possibly check your fuses under the hood and under your driver side dash.

Did you find a solution? I'm seeing nearly the identical issue with my '04 EX-L sedan.

I've checked the bulbs, fuses, pedal switch and all exposed connectors . . . yet I get no light at the tail-lights, just at the third (high-mount) light.

Any ideas?

There may be 2 problems. Have you checked the bulbs in the body. The trunk bulbs are not suppose to light when braking. If the LED in the wing works then so should the body side brake lights. This indicates to me that there is not a failure of the brake light switch. Again check your bulbs and respond. As for the cruise the most likely cause is the cruise switch itself. I have replaced several in 03-07 Accords. Let me also note that if the vehicle is auto equipped then the vehicle should not be allowed out of park if the brake light switch is failing and that brake light switch can be an intermittent problem.

My wife's 2005 Accord brake lights stopped working seemingly all at once. My first thought was that it had blown a fuse or needed to replace brake pedal switch.

Fuse looked good. Replaced brake pedal switch. Still, the 3 brake lights were not working. I checked all 3 bulbs and they're all black or burned out.

My question is how likely is it that all 3 would burn out at the same time, or is it possible something else is triggering it?

What else could I check besides the fuse? If I need to check any wires, how would I go about doing that? I would appreciate any comments, advice, suggestions!

I am having problems with Accord ('03) brake lights, too. First, they seem to work just fine when they are the only lights on (i.e., light switch turned off, step on brakes, all is good). When I turn on the lights - even just the running lights - they become non-functional. I have checked all bulbs, replaced the brake light switch on the pedal arm, and the problems continue.
So, I just thought I would see if there is a fuse issue. There is not even a fuse listed in the owner's manual or on the lids of either fuse panel for brake lights! What fuse are people checking to see if it is at fault? Are the bulbs the "fuses?" I don't suspect this, since they seem to work fine with the lights turned off, anyway.
What is the common thread between the brake lights and all the other (running and headlights)? Should I look at replacing the headlight switch? That may a bigger job than I can take on, since it would (I presume) require tearing down the steering column.

Any help for a newbie here? Please?
