wow my mpg is better with the k&n filter
i used to get around 215-220 on a tank of gas, now im getting 300.
i got 300 miles and filled up using 10.89 gallons, thats around 27 mpg. im guessing thats a pretty good number since i drive mostly in the city.

and i don't drive as fast as i used to anymore...i'm getting old

Drive until your tank is just about empty and your riding on fumes. Fill up. You should be able to put somewhere around 15 gallons in if you were totally empty. Then drive until you run out of gas. Then divide the number of miles you went since the fill up by the 15 or so. Thats you MPG. If you were doing all city driving, its your city MPG, if highway, then high MPG.
The downside is that you will be out of gas in the middle of the Nevada desert.

Good job! I must say that I'm pretty lucky with my 27mpg fuel economy, especially since I drive in DC rush hour traffic every day.

no need to guess at "15 or so" when you fill up just look at the exact number of gallons that were pumped into your tank from the reciept or the display on the pump. Divide that into the number of miles on your trip meter since you filled up last and you'll have an exact number.
I keep a spreadsheet of my MPG on every fillup just for kicks.

On long road trips I can break 400 miles per tank easily (usually without the fuel light). Once I get up near 420 I start to question my fuel meter if there's no light by then. As long as I don't go crazy fast - try and avoid letting the VTEC kick then I can see 30+ MPG.

i only get about 300-320 miles outta a tank...it sucks...it used to be about 400+...i dont know what happened...

I wonder how non-engine modifications affect mileage. THings like aggressive tire tread, altered suspension (aerodynamics of a lowered car), etc.

I can usually go 420ish miles before my gas light comes on. Oddly on the road trip i went on last week, i barely got to 400miles, we traveling fast thoung, 90-105 for 4.5hrs w/ the AC on.

It doesn't matter. STart with a full tank set trip meter and drive. when you fillup divide number of miles by the number of gallons that went into your tank. Why would the gas left in the tank matter. all that matters is how many miles you drove and how many gallons you used which you find out when you fill up next time assuming you started with a full tank the first time.

sorry, but had to jump in here. how is it not accurate? it is perfect. As long as you start with a full tank of gas. and then when you fill up next time to a full tank you see how much gas you used.

If you don't top off and overfill your tank it is a precise measurement. I'm not sure what your missing...Its simple math. Not everything is as hard as it seems. No offense but if I could say it slower for you I would.

it works like this
1. fill up the tank to auto shut off on the pump
2. reset trip odometer to 0
3. when you fill up again note the # of gallons in this example we will use 12
4. look at the trip odometer in this case 400 miles
5. divide 400 miles by 12 gallons and you get 33 if you round to the nearest gallon (actually it is 33.33...)
it is accurate enough that you will never run out of gas if you refill knowing that x miles means you have used y gallons
I always refill at the time gas guage reads 1/2 that is about 8.5 gallons for me on 245 miles of city driving with A/C on

a softer tire compound would also reduce milage
lowered cars are more aerodynamic which would increase milage
with i/h/e you will usually increase milage unless your foot becomes heavy
but once you modify you're fuel system you're gonna head downhill

I actually lost gas mileage with my K&N filter. Your jump is kinda hard to believe. No way can just a K&N filter do all that especially when most people actually lose mileage with a K& N filter.
